Oh my, beautiful Lily! So exactly how old is this wee baby? I've been around chickens and pheasants, not these guys...too cool. Thanks for sharing Lily.

When I took that first picture, the chick was only a few hours old. They hatch fully feathered and pretty much instantly sprout a layer of extra fuzz! Two more hatched later last night... So now we have three. One of them was supposed to be pied, but I guess mother nature had her own plan.Nick Gilmore wrote: β7 years ago Oh my, beautiful Lily! So exactly how old is this wee baby? You mark the eggs when you take them from the nest. I think at this point they all look alike, cute as heck!

Re: The Peafowl Periodical
It's been a while since I posted. Things have been busy, but the hatching continues! Here is the crown jewel of the season thus far: An India Blue Pied! Essentially a pinto peacock! I just cannot get over this baby's beautiful face.
I'm also currently doing physical therapy on a white chick (it happens to be the one in the picture a few posts back) with a twisted tibia. He needs his legs bandaged and has to live in the house, even though his friends have all moved outside. The two of us have bonded and become the best of friends... I think I might have a new "dog". His name is Leinenkugel; yes, he is named after a beer brand. Oh, and he might be a she... Who knows, i"m still waiting for my DNA sexing kits to get here
