Idea: Fantasy Turf Route
I'm going to float this idea out there to see how much interest there may be. Also, I'm still debating if I want to take on the work involved, but I don't think it will be too bad.
Idea: Players draft somewhere between 5-10 turf routers each, using a snake draft order. Horses earn points in the following manner during the year:
Million-dollar-plus Grade 1 turf route: 150 for first, 120 for second, 90 for third, 60 for fourth, 30 for fifth.
Sub-million-dollar Grade 1 turf route: 100 for first, 80 for second, 60 for third, 40 for fourth, 20 for fifth.
Grade 2 turf route: 80 for first, 64 for second, 48 for third, 32 for fourth, 16 for fifth.
Grade 3 turf route: 60 for first, 48 for second, 36 for third, 24 for fourth, 12 for fifth.
Listed stakes turf route: 40 for first, 32 for second, 24 for third, 16 for fourth, 8 for fifth.
Points accumulate through the end of the year. The player whose horses earn the most points wins (and there can be prizes for second place and third place, too).
I'm thinking the draft can be held during the second week of break on here. I will randomize the draft order once I know how many are playing (and will figure out how many horses each player will draft based on the number of total players). Players can draft their own horses.
Obviously, if a horse you drafted is retired midseason, well, your bad luck. There's other factors to consider, too (Does a horse typically race every 2 weeks or three? Does its owner go aggressively after Grade 1s or take safer routes? etc. etc.)
My thought is everyone contributes $10,000 SIM dollars to the prize pool (I want to keep the amount small so all players, even beginners with little money, can participate if they wish). Winner gets 50%, second place 35% and third place 15%.
Thoughts?

As I said elsewhere..........I'm in! For 10K I'd join a pick 'em league of Fantasy Goat Racing. And this is way better than that.

Addition: For million-dollar-plus Grade 1s, 150 for first, 120 for second, 90 for third, 60 for fourth, 30 for fifth.
This, like everything else suggested, can be debated.

Re: Idea: Fantasy Turf Route
I'm pretty sure this is going to happen so I'm going to start a list of players:
Dan Kauffman
Ali Hedgestone
Glenn Escobar
Pam Maier
Garret Folsom
Cleo Patra
Tim Matthews
Kaine Saracen
Leonard Beagle
I will have someone other than me randomize the draft order when the time comes, so I'm not accused of unfairness!

Re: Idea: Fantasy Turf Route
I have no idea what a snake draft order is, and I've never done a fantasy league. Seems like a good place to start. I'm in!

Re: Idea: Fantasy Turf Route
Snake draft order just means if the first round goes 1-2-3-4-5, the second round goes 5-4-3-2-1. Third round is 1-2-3-4-5, fourth round is 5-4-3-2-1, and so on.

I may have missed this, and this likely a stupid question....
Is this real life racing, or SIM racing?

Where and how are we planning on Conducting the Draft? I'm more concerned with the how (chat, other options etc.) than I am with the when at this point.
