Year 50 Fantasy Turf Route Racing
This is an idea I have had in my head for a few SIM years now, and I have decided to break it out for the 50th year. If you know how Fantasy Football or Fantasy Baseball (non-rotisserie) works, you basically know how this will work.
During the SIM break, each player will draft somewhere between six and 10 turf route runners (the exact number will depend on how many players sign up to play). All turf route horses (even those who will be juveniles in Year 50) are eligible to be drafted, During the year, players will earn points based on the points their horses earn in races. At the end of the year, the player with the most total points will win. (This is almost identical to the Triple Crown Trail points system, with the exception that all turf route races, at any level and at any time during the year, will count toward the standings).
I will not be a player, but will be supplying the prize pool of SIM $100,000 ... $60,000 to the winner, $25,000 to the runner-up and $15,000 to third place. There will be NO entry fee.
The draft will be held on the forum (in the Games and Contests section, in a separate thread from this one), with a draft order being announced prior to the start of the draft, which will begin the first Monday of the break (April 30). The draft will use a snake format, which will look something like this (the example below uses eight players) ...
ROUND ONE: ABCDEFGH
ROUND TWO: HGFEDCBA
ROUND THREE: ABCDEFGH
ROUND FOUR: HGFEDCBA
... and so on and so forth for as many rounds as I determine we will have.
Each player, when it is his or her turn to select a horse, will do so in the draft thread. My guess is the draft will take at least a week to complete (as players will sometimes be busy or sleeping, given time zone differences). I'm hoping the draft will finish before Year 50 begins (two weeks after the draft start date).
As Year 50 progresses, I will provide weekly points standings updates.
If you wish to sign up for the game, please say in this thread that you want to participate.
Also feel free to ask any questions in this thread.

I won’t play because I don’t trust my time constraints but I’d love to throw in to double the prize pool, if you would be happy to take another $100,000 Dan?

Yeah, this sounds cool, and I should be back in full force by the time it gets going. I'm down.

PARTICIPANTS TO DATE:
J.r. Lewis
Nicholas Johnson
Laura Smith
Sophia Stevenson
I'm planning on setting up the draft for about 100 picks. The fewer entrants, the more horses everyone will pick. Hoping for at least 10 participants (which would lead to teams of 10 horses each). But we will go with whatever number of entrants we get.
Prize pool is now SIM $120,000 for first, $50,000 for second and $30,000 for third. Thanks again, Cleo.
