Year 50 Fantasy Turf Route Racing DRAFT THREAD

Post by Dan Kauffman »

The Fantasy Turf Route Racing Draft will begin Monday, April 30. PLEASE do NOT make any selections prior to this time.

Each player, when it is his/her turn, will select ONE turf route runner. That player will be the ONLY one to have that horse.

There will be SIX rounds, meaning each player will finish the draft with six horses in his/her stable. In all, 114 horses will be selected.

Horses will earn points during Year 50 based on the number of points they win in actual turf route races. The total number of points awarded in a race is mentioned in each race's description (typically 100 for a Grade 1, 80 for a Grade 2, 60 for a Grade 3, 40 for a listed stakes, 20 for an allowance and 10 for other races). Of the points awarded in a race, 50 percent goes to the winner, 30 percent to the runner-up and 20 percent to the third-place finisher. No points will be awarded to a horse for races other than turf routes.

In any turf route race with a purse of at least $1 million, I will award a total of 200 points (100 to the winner, 60 to the runner-up and 40 for third).

If a player drafts a horse that is retired BEFORE the start of Year 50 (presumably while the draft is still ongoing, as the draft will take several days over the break), that player can select a replacement horse as soon as possible. If a horse retires DURING Year 50 (say, after the Pegasus races Week 2), that horse CANNOT be replaced.

I STRONGLY recommend that each player send a private message to the player whose turn is next after making a pick. That will help the draft run in a smoother, more timely fashion (though I am sure there will still be periods where no selections are made due to a player being asleep/time zone differences etc.) Note that the player who picks at the end of each round also makes the first selection in the following round, in essence making two straight picks.

PRIZES
First Place: SIM $300,000
Second Place: SIM $120,000
Third Place: SIM $90,000
Fourth Place: SIM $60,000
Fifth Place: SIM $30,000

ALL SELECTIONS MUST BE MADE IN THIS THREAD.

I will do my best to keep an updated list of draft selections in the thread (actually, I will update this very post) as picks are made.

Given it's now early Monday morning in Europe (and later than that in Asia/Australia) ...

THE DRAFT IS OPEN.

Once again, I STRONGLY recommend that each player send a private message to the player whose turn is next after making a pick. That will help the draft run in a smoother, more timely fashion (though I am sure there will still be periods where no selections are made due to a player being asleep/time zone differences etc.) Note that the player who picks at the end of each round also makes the first selection in the following round, in essence making two straight picks.

Players,

Please start preparing lists of horses you would like to draft (maybe like 20 or so) in the order you would select them. If this thing doesn’t move better by Wednesday, I will take the lists and, when needed (say if there’s an hour or more from the previous pick), I will use the lists to “auto draft” for people.

I’m hoping once Sophia gets online (she has two messages waiting for her) and picks, this will pick up. We will see. If by Wednesday evening we’re still in mid-first round, I will ask for the lists.

I'm guessing that with 19 people each drafting 6 horses, we'll need a list longer than 20. I have a list 150+ long. It's currently in order based on top SF for each horse, not how I would draft them, but just for me to be able to reference in a quick, easy way.

Garret has a good point, 6 people in and 3 of my top picks are gone. I’m not complaining, there’s plenty of apples in the barrel, so to say. But a list of 20 won’t take me far, lol

That list of 20 I recommended was just to get started, if needed. Maybe it won't be. Now if people choose to send me 100-horse lists should I ask for them, well, that's obviously fine.

SEAN — You were not up yet (I think you may have looked at the second round order, where you are fourth), so your pick does not count.

I can’t believe my filly went in the top five. You don’t get bonus points for that!

FYI, I sent Laura Smith a PM to tell her it's her turn to pick.
