I am pretty sure that once you are entered in a new player race, it will not scratch you if your status changes before the post time. We used to do that, but it meant that everyone who was about to change player levels would be scratched from all their races and couldn't enter the next level race until their status had changed.

I am lazy at the moment, and don't want to comb through the code, but that is what I remember.

That’s what I remember from my time at TP, my horses were not scratched after I entered them even though my status changed. So get them entered Frank

Here are the reasons a horse gets scratched per the FAQ
Now was it switched and the FAQ not updated, possibly.

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16418

No Longer Eligible
There are several reasons why a horse would be no longer eligible for a race:
-The horse was entered in two maiden races, won the first one, and is now no longer eligible for the second
-Similarly, if the horse was entered in two NW2 races, and won one so it is now no longer eligible for the second, etc
-The horse was retired since the entry
-The horse was injured since the entry
-Your SIMperior account ran out, and you were in a SIMperior-only race
-Your New Player status ran out, and you were in a New Player-only race
-Your Junior Player status ran out, and you were in a Junior Player-only race
