Need Your Help: is improvement linked to race frequency?

Post by Julia H »

Hello fellow players,

I just stumbled over a question and could not find anything in the forum so far. Some of my late bloomers improved to their peaks recently but without a gallop-changing comment. I know this must not mean anything, but I raced them quite often with a high frequency of races since the day they were allowed to run their perfect distance as 2yos.
The late bloomer comment says 'bring along carefully', so I was wondering if it is better for 2yo late bloomers to debut at 3yos? Do you have any experience if the race frequency or debut age has a positive impact on improvement?

I am looking forward to read your experiences and suggestions. Thank you in advance :)

I think that’s just flare. Soundness is what is linked to frequency.

I've had late bloomers that have had really nice 2yo seasons so I don't think you should automatically wait until they are 3 to run them. Though often if I have late bloomers that are not really performing well I will often park them for a while until they improve so I'm not ruining their confidence running them before they are at their best.
