If Wishs Came True Spectacular in Filly and Mare Turf

Original article written by Fanta Arcadia posted 11 years 1 week ago

It has been a wild ride for many to get to the Steward’s Cup, and for a few they received their fairy tale ending. One such ending came for the bay, stripe faced filly named If Wishs Came True. Alysse Peverell’s homebred, that was sired by Feat and is out of the Acapulco mare Wishit To Be Real, has been on a mission to do the insanely difficult task of remaining undefeated in her entire career and winning the Steward’s Cup.

If Wishs Came True came into the Steward’s Cup with an undefeated record of twelve lifetime starts and twelve wins. She also had over a million in earnings and had already beaten the boys. A list of the races she had won for the year included the Rainbow Bright Stakes, the Prix La Liberte, the Crown Princess Stakes, and the Flower Pot Handicap. So for Alysse Peverell it was only a matter of deciding what race to send her lovely bay filly in. At first she was entered into the Steward’s Cup Turf (with the eventual winner being Pingu who scored an 82 speed figure), Alysse scratched the filly from the race and instead chose the Steward’s Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Whether If Wishs Came True would have achieved the same result in the Steward’s Cup Turf as she did in the Steward’s Cup Filly and Mare Turf will never be known. Yet it is a known fact that she scored a higher speed figure than the winner of the Steward’s Cup Turf in the female equivalent of the race. Not to mention the fact that she won by a more authoritative three and a quarter lengths.

With regular jockey Richard Migliore aboard, If Wishs Came True had the perfect trip all the way around the track. If Wishs Came True broke well from the gate and stalked the early pacesetter Limitation by a length as If Wishs Came True settled for second. At the second call, Limitation had increased her lead over If Wishs Came True and was now running a length and three quarters in front.

As the field rounded the final turn, If Wishs Came True began to reel in the early pacesetter under a mild drive by Richard Migliore who was as cool as a cucumber in the irons. Limitation’s length advantage gave way at a rapid pace as If Wishs Came True sailed on by and Limitation gave way. As Limitation was coasting back, she would eventually finish fourth, If Wishs Came True was the picture of perfection with her ears pricked as she took home the win by three and a quarter lengths.

In second place came Rockstaroftomorrow who held off Stay Wild by a head the rest finished as follows: Limitation, Forgave, Sea Birds, Stargate, Platypus, Nostalgic Dreams, Qetesh, and Cage Match. If Wishs Came True hit an eighty-four speed figure while the second place finisher only hit a sixty-nine speed figure.
If Wishs Came True’s earnings are now $2,115,000, the brilliant filly has accomplished her mission with the greatest of ease and her owner can finally breathe a huge sigh of relief.
