A New Players Look at the Upcoming Break

Original article written by Amanda Haderthauer posted 11 years 2 weeks ago

Between every SIM year there is a break that last two or three weeks. This is NOT a training break for the horses. So if you run a horse on Monday of week sixteen it cannot be run week one of the following year. That means you should plan accordingly not only for the end of the current year but also for the beginning of the upcoming one.

During the break no races are run and horses cannot be trained. Also during the break the Year will turn over and all the horses will age one year. At this point everyone will be excited to train there new yearlings but horses cannot be trained until the break is over. With no races to enter and no horses to train just what can you do over the break?

The biggest thing is breeding horses. Some owners will retire there horses after the last or that years races are run. This means you have that week or so before the year turns over to get your mare to the new stallions that are out there. Just make sure you get all your breeding done on time.

Another thing that is common practice during the break is the buying and selling of horses. The Alexandra Jaysman stable will have a sale, lowering their usual price of $1000 to $100 on most of their stock. Other player will be looking to get rid of some of their horse as well so there will be sales aplenty during that time. I personally will use that time to take a close look at my stable to see which horses I should sell, which ones I should keep, and which ones I should just get rid of even if they don’t sell.

As a new player I wrote a lot of articles this year. It helped me to maintain a healthy bank balance and even allowed me to buy my first Steward bred. During the break articles cannot be posted for cash. But that does not mean that you should forget about the Feature Race all together. I plan to write some articles over the break and save them for a time when I could use the money but am just too busy to write. This is a good idea for people that find themselves with SIM time to kill. While writing about races will be hard, as none will be running, it would be a great to bio racehorses or stallions or even to interview people.

This is also a good time to make a simple plan for your racehorses. I say a simple plan because you never really know what will happen from race to race, whether a horse will surprise you with a big run that has you thinking Stakes Horse?, or if a previously consistent performer will flop and have you thinking Claimer?. Either way a basic plan can make the upcoming year go more smoothly.

So while the break may seem like an endless expanse of nothingness, it will not be that and if you put that time to good use you could come away with a head start to the new SIM year.
