The Art Of Being a Successful Newbie

Original article written by Jack Meyer posted 10 years 1 week ago

As the case with anything else in life, there is an art to being a successful newb in the SIM universe, a formula if you will, that will enable you to keep up with the rest of the pack as the weeks fly by each SIM year. With the break coming up really fast, I thought I would try and shed some light on a couple of ways to be affective in the SIM, even when the deck is stacked against us the way it is. In the following sections, I will point out the three best ways for us newbies to stay in the game, I hope you enjoy them, and try to apply them in some way to your daily routine in the SIM.

First off, you have to make sure you are putting your horses in the right spots, you can't expect a claimer that has a workout time of 38.00 on the Turf to be able to match up with a small Stakes racer with workouts just over 36.00. Just like any newb, I need to make money, and finding a race that will do this for me is vital when running my stable, so I need to come to the realization that it is rare to turn a lifelong claimer into a Stakes winner.

I would love to be able to jump right in with a Scary/Special filly and win the Louisville Oaks, but the fact is, that filly isn't going to just fall into my lap, I have to be patient, and work my way to finding her. For the first 4 weeks after I got my first win, Tuesday's and Thursday's were my best friends Alaska was my home away from SIM home. I placed all of my horses there, and was able to cash some checks until I was able to spot better horses in different areas of the game.

I usually go through each of my horses that are slated to run every day, and double check to make sure I've put them into a race where they can perform to their ability, sometimes that is by using some as fillers so I can win quick cash, and other times it's using Trial Park to my newbie hearts desire to earn as much as possible before that status goes away. I use the "Search" tab at the top to locate all the races being run a Trial Park for that week and I place as many of my horses as possible in those races, because those are the ones specifically for newbies.

Secondly, the fact that you get 20K to write articles is a blessing for newbies who don't have bank like the vet players do in the game. We are allowed to write up to four articles per week, and get paid 20K, or sometimes even more depending on the length, which could make you an extra 80K each week. If you add that up over an entire SIM year, you earn 1.28 million SIM cash dollars in writing articles, this will keep you going as you struggle to locate talented horses in auctions and on the sales page. With so many options to choose from to write about, all you have to do is pick one, and write to your heart's desire.

Lastly, is making use of the "Sales Page", since we are newbies, we have the pleasure of using our status to get first crack at horses that our beloved SIM account owner Alexandra Jaysman drops off each and every night at 12am (Pacific). There are times when certain accounts in the SIM world disperse, when they do, AJ (as we call her), drops them at the stroke of midnight for all newbs to sift through and choose up to 5 from. When a stable is dispersed, there is a chance that some very nice horses are in the mix, and there for the taking, which is a way to get quality horses to run in better races on race days. I know it is tough to train yourself to do so, but I do recommend new players finding a way to get to the Sales Page in the hopes of finding the gems that could be there at a moment's notice, I have done so nearly every night, and been rewarded with my first Scary/Special Quarter Horse filly, and more than a dozen and a half Wow/Stakes horses that I was able to pick up. In order to find these types of horses, you have to be at the page at or around 12am Pacific to have a shot at getting them, sometimes it works, and sometimes it don't, but if you catch lightning in a bottle, it pays off.

There you have it, my top three ways of being a successful newb as you get started on your SIM journey, just have fun with the game, and be patient.
