Bronze Horseman Wins The Gold In The Queen's Derby
Original article written by Jack Meyer posted 10 years 0 weeks agoAfter skipping the Long Island Classic, all eyes were on Bronze Horseman as he took on 9 rivals in the Grade 1 Queen's Derby Monday night at Toronto Racecourse in Canada. He saw familiar faces such as Easy On The Eyes, Amongst No One, and Achieve Your Ends, as well as some newcomers like Bluegrass Prince and Fillory, all with one goal, to take down the king in the Queen's Derby, here is how the race unfolded
Amongst No One shot out like a rocket for the early lead, with Bronze Horseman and D's Bluegrass giving chase in 2nd and 3rd. A 1/2 length back was Easy On Yourself and Fillory who settled in tight behind the leaders, with Achieve Your Ends and Draw Your Sword settling in mid pack. Easy On The Eyes, Bluegrass Price, and D's Hercules brought up the back of the pack awaiting the leaders to show signs of tiring.
As they neared the midway point, Amongst No One had opened up a 4 length lead, with D's Bluegrass putting a length between him and Bronze Horseman in 2nd. Fillory was right on the heels of Bronze Horseman in 4th, with Easy On Yourself and Achieve Your ends a length further back. Draw Your Sword and Easy On the Eyes were biding their time in mid pack now, with Bluegrass Prince and D's Hercules slipping into the distance in the back of the pack.
As they neared the top of the stretch, Amongst No One was growing leg weary, as Bronze Horseman, Fillory, and Achieve Your Ends were set down for the drive and closing quick. Easy On The Eyes was shot out of a cannon, going from 8th to 5th in a matter of seconds, while Easy On Yourself, and D's Bluegrass threw in the towel and began fading. Bluegrass Prince and D's Hercules decided to shift into high gear, and began to chew up ground quickly.
As they neared the finish line, Bronze Horseman took command by a length, with Fillory right on his heels in second. Easy On The Eyes was closing with a furious rush and moved into 3rd, while Achieve Your Ends passed Amongst No One for 4th, the rest were too far back to make any mark on the top 5.
Bronze Horseman survived, as Fillory just couldn't manage to get around him and finished a length back in 2nd. Easy On The Eyes just couldn't close fast enough to take down the top 2, and had to settle for 3rd, and Achieve Your Ends bested Amongst No One for the 4th spot. Bluegrass Prince wound up finishing 6th followed by Easy On Yourself, Draw Your Sword, D's Hercules, and D's Bluegrass.
Bronze Horseman shined again in the Queen's Derby, but he won't be able to escape With Kind Regards and Amaroq if they all decide to take on the Steward's Cup in week 16, and Fillory didn't miss by much, he was just a late bloomer, I look for big things from him in the future.
