I’m excited for this race and I need a little cash so what’s the only logical thing to do? Write an article of course!
The Steward’s Cup Marathon Chase will be the 3rd Steward’s Cup race of the year following two other Steeplechase races. It will be broadcast live in the heavy rain for all of the SIM world to see, this one should be great it just might take a while to finish!
Clarence Oveur is owned by Dave Trainer. He is a 4 year old Colt with $240,700 in earnings and 6 wins lifetime. He’s coming off of a 6th place finish in Ireland 2 weeks ago in a listed stakes. He has yet to try a distance even near this long and he’s going to need this to be his perfect distance considering his recent performances and lack of rest.
Fegio (love that name) is another 4 year old Colt this time owned by Rafa Usoz. This guy has earned $81,300 lifetime and is coming off of a 6th place listed stakes finish last out but he did win an allowance race rather impressively 2 outs ago albeit at half this distance. He’s going to have to prove to me that he can make this distance and I have a hard time believing he can based on his longest race being only 3 miles and producing a good but not great 94 speed figure in listed company.
Final Nightmare is a 5 year old horse owned by Rachel Sadler. He has $1,541,000 in earnings and was the victor in last year's edition of this race. For some reason he has struggled at the longer distances this year with his longest win coming in a 2 ⅝ mile race. He clearly nailed this distance last year but it remains to be seen if he can do it again, especially having to bounce back from a 61 speed figure 9th place finish. This dude is good but he really needs to get it together for this one or he won’t shine like he should.
Loves to Drive is yet again another 5 year old horse, this time he’s owned by Laura Ferguson and has about 6 or 7 less starts than other guys his age but still has managed 7 wins and $724,000 in earnings. He’s going to be tough to say the least. His last loss was in the Imperial Empire to Dark Union where he ran a 96 speed figure for 2nd place, wow. Distance is no question for this guy and I think the only thing that remains to be seen is if the ship will affect him negatively. He seems to be a very unsound horse that just shipped overseas on 3 weeks rest. I have no doubt that even if he is tired he is still going to be very difficult to beat considering he ran 2nd here last year and is nothing short of amazing.
Manny’s Jumper is a 5 year old mare owned by Kent Saunders. She has $146,880 in earnings with 9 wins in her lifetime. She ran 3rd last out in an allowance with her last win being 3 races ago in a 4 mile grade 3. The distance seems to be right but maybe not the class. She’s a good horse but might just be in over her head racing in the Steward’s Cup and against the boys.
Rugby Sevens is our first gelding, he is a 5 year old owned by Jack Ball. This guy has $241,650 in earnings with 7 wins lifetime. Although he ran 6th in a G1 last out this guy had been fantastic leading up to this race with 3 straight graded stakes wins. One of those wins was at this distance which should prove beneficial for him. He is coming off 2 weeks rest on a long ship which is always a concern but I think this guy can handle it if anyone can. He should be a good one in this race.
Same Old Party is a 4 year old filly owned by Kelley Wachter. She has $30,550 in earnings with 3 wins lifetime. Her last win was 4 outs ago in an allowance and she hasn’t hit the board since in all stakes races. She will likely be a non-factor in this race.
Seventh Wife is a 5 year old mare owned by Polk Buffalo. She has $77,450 in earnings and has won 4 races lifetime. This girl has yet to cross the finish line first this year (and she has run in two allowances) yet she has finished 3rd in two G1 tries. While she could be a fun one to root for distance may be a problem for her along with a lack of class.
Tasmania Z is a 4 year old filly owned by Flizan Hambletonian. She has $177,550 in earnings with 4 wins lifetime. Last out she ran 2nd in a Game Point Sired Stakes with her last win being week 5 in a listed stakes race. I don’t think distance will be a big issue for her but class might be. She hasn’t been running quite as well lately and she’s a younger horse running against the boys. While she could be a factor I don’t expect her to be one.
Voltigeurs is a 4 year old Colt with $606,000 in earnings and 6 wins lifetime. He’s coming off of a G1 romp where he ran a 97 speed figure. Class is no issue for this horse and I don’t think distance will be either, he’s going to be difficult to take down in this one and should be your post time favorite.
