Hall of Fame - Guardian Of Truth

Original article written by Nathan Klein posted 3 years 3 weeks ago

Guardian Of Truth was an Arabian looking for redemption in the year 33 Steward's Cup Arabian Dash. He was gonna be facing his nemesis Qairan for the sixth time. Twice it went to Guardian Of Truth and thrice it went to Qairan. Guardian Of Truth was a veteran sprinter running at the age of 6. But Qairan was only 4 and had made a name for himself the year before at age 3. But what got Guardian Of Truth to this moment in his career. What got him to his third Steward's Cup Arabian Dash. Turns out Guardian Of Truth started out a more average Arabian in his first year. Initially, he showed promise at 3 winning his first 2 races including a win in the Sayitsyourbirthday Stakes. But he then went on a losing streak of 8 races from age 3 to 4. But after breaking the streak in a non-winner of 3 he went for the Steward's Cup Arabian Dash. Against all odds, he took the lead fought off the front runners and lastly held off the late-charging Kharizmah to win by half a length. Now he was the star of the sprinting scene winning 5 of his 6 races in preparation for his title defense. But now on the opposite end, Guardian Of Truth was favored and everyone knew what he could do. But he just didn't have it that year, Qairan a regularly raced 3-year-old came and spoiled the show leading the race early instead of Guardian Of Truth. By the end, Qairan held off all comers to win while Guardian Of Truth faded to third.

Guardian Of Truth and Qairan now had a year to get ready for next year's Steward's Cup. During that time the two faced off another four times and both won two each. The stage was set for the rematch of the sprinters. Both trying to become the first back to back winners of the Steward's Cup Arabian Dash. But who would take that honor? The race began and at the start, Guardian Of Truth immediately was put at a disadvantage breaking poorly and giving Qairan the lead early. But Guardian Of Truth began to be hustled to the lead and soon the two began to go head and head. Both had a slim lead over the pack as Guardian Of Truth, Qairan, and two other horses led the pack by a clear margin. They quickly opened up 6 1/4 lengths as they dueled. The two refusing to give any inches as they zoomed into the far turn. The two horse's heads were bobbing up and down alternating who was the leader. One stride it was Guardian Of Truth, one stride it was Qairan. But in the stretch Guardian Of Truth began to slowly open up. Qairan began to waver and slowly fade, Guardian Of Truth gradually overpowered his rival and crossed the line in front by 1 1/4 lengths. Behind him were 8 horses who crossed the line with less than a length between second and ninth place. In second was Qairan who barely kept his placing. Guardian of Truth retired after this race, he had become the first two time winner of the Steward's Cup Arabian Dash and the first two time winner of any Arabian Steward's Cup Race. A year later other champions such as Kalri, and Qairan would keep the trend up but no one did it before Guardian Of Truth. At stud, he was a decent sire producing two Steward's Cup winners including The Assassin Creed who joined his father in the Hall Of Fame. Guardian Of Truth was a great sprinter, a successful sire and most importantly the first Arabian to win two Steward Cups.
