Future Leader Dog Named Ponies

Post by Jo Ferris »

For those who don't know, I'm a puppy raiser for Leader Dogs for the Blind, I've absolutely fallen in love with raising puppies and am on my second puppy. Of course, something this important earns SIM ponies being named after them

Image
FLD Raven
b.c.4 - 16.1
Marking: Blaze
Total Stats: 14: 6-5-1
Earnings: $562,600
Companion Goat Buckskin: Peanut Butter Kong

This colt is named after puppy #1, a female (sorry boy!) black lab I named Raven. She's now a working guide dog. She's literally the cutest puppy EVER, she's always SO happy, excited, playful, had a baby face with puppy eyes that will soften your soul and LOVES belly rubs, she can't focus till she got her belly rubs! Raven is currently in training to be a guide dog.
The SIM FLD Raven is now a G1 winner, he's a great runner and I've got high hopes for him at stud. His companion goat is of course, Peanut Butter Kong, what lab doesn't love those! They're Ravey's favorite

Really little baby pic with her litter, given how ridiculous she is you could guess which one is her:

FLD Ruby
bro.f.2 - 16.2
Marking: No Marking
Total Stats: 3: 1-1-0
Earnings: $7,640

This filly is named after puppy #2, a female yellow lab named Ruby. She was donated at about 8 months old then I received her at 9 months. Ruby was Career Changed due to a congenital heart defect, mild case of TVD. She's now my forever pet dog.

23 days left with FLD Ruby until she returns for training and I should hear within the next week if FLD Raven gets issued as a fully trained guide dog to a client, It's sounding promising based on her last update!! Maybe going to a University life with a student or staff on a campus? We'll find out!! Also, just got word on my next puppy, a female from this litter (11 pups, Lab x Golden)

She did it, FLD Raven is now officially Leader Dog Raven!! She was issued today, couldn't be more excited!!! Still no guarantee of this match working out, as Raven and the client need to has a connection, but if it does, she'll be out in the world with her handler in 3 weeks as a working guide dog! If the client and Rave work well over the next week and a half I'll go down to meet them next weekend

Oh, and Happy 1st Birthday FLD Ruby!!!! Sorry, Ravey kinda stole the show

Fingers crossed. LD Raven is pretty straight forward, she LOVES to work, always has. As long as they have food, she'll be one happy puppy, belly rubs are required as well. I can guarantee one of the first things she did when she met her client was flip on her back for some belly rubs

Ruby has a very smart look in those eyes. It reminds me of my Leo. She may just be having trouble realizing she can lead without being the leader.

Met LD Raven's new forever person last night, a nice young man from Minnesota. Raven is his first guide dog, I'm so excited for him!! He's starting college in the fall. He told me Raven is not what he imagined for his guide dog, but ever since he met her he can't imagine anything but her, says she is perfect <3 They've only been together for 12 days but already look like they're a team, said he hasn't had any problems with her so fingers crossed everything continues to go well. We have a lot of similar hobbies so Raven should be good for him, she was raised around those hobbies. So excited!!! We're going to stay in touch and hopefully see each other again since they're so close, only a couple states away.

So a few updates on these guys:

First and foremost FLD Ruby, the dog not the SIM horse, is now CC'd Ruby, she was career changed (CC'd) for a congenital heart defect. She's now officially owned by me and back home as my pet. I think it's safe to say she's living her best life. She's been great since she's been back, had her back for 5 days now.

LD Raven is doing great with her handler, she's doing a job she loves and getting lots of love and attention, I think it's safe to say she's a little spoiled ;) Raven and her handler start college in a few weeks

FLD Eclipse just got her second round of shots, she's now 15lbs, when I picked her up on 6/28 she was 8.8 lbs!

FLD Raven the colt just won his second G1 this week I'm leaning towards retiring him this year, but at the same time, do we really need another Stetson stud? He seemed to start off the year on the wrong hoof, but then just ran a career best SF. Guess we'll find out what I do in week 16

I think it's safe to say FLD Raven loves this G1 stakes. He won it last night for the 3rd straight year, his 3 G1 wins now ties the most I've had from one horse, he's tied with Boone, Kissin' Frogs and She's Country.

He's unlikely to retire this year, he's been running better than ever this year and I'm not wanting to end it just yet.
