Faded Memory

Faded Memory
(Giant - Father Can I [Can We Be Together])

The horse that I lovingly refer to as Mem recently gave me my first ever G1 win in the Fall Derby.

The story:
It's well-documented by now, but Mem was born as an allowance progressive in my second career foal crop. His name comes from a song lyric that I misheard due to the singer's accent (which is very on-brand for me). He improved to allowance peak during the W9 changes. Not expecting much out of an allowance dirt router, he went into a cheap $15k claimer and I mostly forgot about him until about 15 minutes after the race ran. He ended up posting a 96. Needless to say, he was not an allowance anymore.

After that maiden, he began to prep for the Triple Crown. His lone loss prior to the Derby was against G1SW Arizona. He was 8th in the Derby which I was very happy with, but was disappointing in Baltimore causing me to pull him off the Trail and point him to the G1 Fall Derby. If he were to win, I'd point him to the SC Classic; if he didn't run well, he would be going elsewhere.

Lo and behold Monday W10 rolls around which was already a big day for me as one of my other favourite homebreds was making his debut. After the Queen's Derby broadcast ended, the nerves settled in, and when I watched the race he gave the front runners a good lead before making his run. In the end, he came away with the victory, my first ever G1, and done with a homebred. It was a special night.

My goal for the year is to point him at the Classic. His next stop is the Midsummer Classic.

he's also special enough to have me draw him

I love that Giant got a colt like this so early in his stud career. Your boy is so nice and he should keep going strong until he is 5 since he peaked at a nice time 😄😄

Thanks Jack!

Considering his most recent race was one of his best efforts, I'm tentatively pointing him to the Pegasus. He's been a rather frustrating horse to campaign, but I think now that I've figured that he prefers short, I'm just gonna go for it!
