The SIM's 50th Anniversary Party

Post by The Steward »

Although SIM Year 50 does not begin until May 7, our anniversary party will be held on April 6 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The rich Santa Anita Derby for 3yos heading to the Kentucky Derby is the very next day, April 7, so I recommend making a weekend out of it :-)

There are many local hotels right around the track, or you can share a Airbnb to keep the costs down (I recommend talking to Louise Bayou about that!). The track does have special Uber lanes if renting a car doesn't appeal.

For easy access to the track, Burbank airport is closest and is a Southwest hub, but LAX will be cheaper. I recommend Southwest or Expedia for cheap flights. :-)

The gathering will have a LIVE Steward auction of some of my best yearlings and 2yos, free food, good racing, and pretty much everyone needs to be there!!

I will be there, present, but only in DREAMS, because it is the only way for me :P

If only I were still on the West Coast! I'm saving my money for Breeder's Cup, otherwise I would be there... :(

I wonder if one of the more tech savvy attendees could rig up a video feed of some sort so that work shackled internationals like me can join the party. Totally wish I could be there!

I'm not international, but it's highly unlikely I'll be in a position to go. So, I too am wondering about a tech setup.

Problem is, I've already traveled back west twice in the last year and I'm broke. No way I'd get the money by April. I really want to go to the BC this year while it's at Churchill, plus it's my birthday. Been planning for that for the last 3 years! :)

If I get the job I want, I'll be living in Louisville within two months. Wanting to meet some SIMsters eventually is no small part of my hoping I get the job.

I live just outside of Louisville (like literally the county line/city change is down the street from me). So if you get it and have any questions on where to live... where to never go or live, etc... feel free to ask.

I unfortunately don't have the means to get on a plane and go to California by myself during the academic year, but I'll definitely be there in spirit! I hope to meet all of you someday. :)

I have never driven from the Vegas Valley to Santa Anita but it looks like it would not be too much of a drive. So I am hoping that my schedule is free at the beginning of April 2018.

We can probably make this happen. :)

Also.. I'm SOOOO excited about this I can't find a GIF that expressed how excited I am to attend!! Not sure my method of transport yet. I may be driving down or flying.
