Newer Player Auction

Post by Mr. Lord Rich »

So we restricted horses to a special group of players so they have a fighting chance to get nice horses in their barn.

Not even 24 hours after the auction I have already seen two pinhook forum posts.

I understand someone should be able to to what they want with the a horse they purchase, but was that really the intent of a newer player restricted auction?

I wish these horses would have been restricted to only being purchasable from that restricted group of players so they could not be pinhooked to vets.

Oh it was less than five minutes and I saw pinhooking.

Mine will stay in the barn. I’m grateful for the opportunity to own one without spending millions I don’t have. Would I like to have a bundle from pinhooking her ? Sure, but I’m in it for the long run and I want that broodmare potential and the lines she has are sweet. She stays.

Stakes-peak was her gallop.

I think you could argue that pinhooking a stewie in this auction is a wise move. The fact that it was stated that these horses are just stakes and allowance and a lot of people are posting what their gallop is, makes me nervous about the filly I got. I’m holding on to her for now, but if I could flip her for some big $ to use in the two upcoming auctions could be a better move long term. I’m not really sure what is best, which is why I’m not galloping or selling.

And add to the fact that it’s all DR which is very tough to break through in, especially if they are colts (I was able to snag a filly).

But the point of the auction was to give newer players a steward bred horse to race, not for intermediate players who already have decent horses to make a quick buck.

If newer players are complaining the horses aren't good enough for them then they obviously don't need their own restricted auction as they must already have better horses.

What is pinhooking in the game?

I think letting intermediate players bid was a bit of an oversight. If this does happen again I think it should be New/Junior only.

Would that be because you won't be intermediate next year so wouldn't qualify anyway?

But you have to admit that the 3rd one was a very impressive pinhook -- $742K profit on a DR stakes colt that will likely earn less than its original purchase price ($258K).

No, it's because Intermediate dominated the auction, myself included, and most of us already have better horses as was previously stated which is why so much pinhooking is happening.

So after you've taken advantage of the situation you want to stop anyone else doing the same.

It’s upsetting for sure. I had my eye on 3 horses in the auction, the colt Dylan pinhooked, the filly Durzo is pinhooking, and, my favourite was the filly Tony got. None of them are worth the prices paid imho. The BEST case scenario is the yearling gallops stakes and maybe one day improves to freak, worst case scenario an peak allowance dirt router who can’t find it’s way out of the starting gate. The chance of any making their purchase price back is slim, but, because there IS a pinhook market, now no Stewardbred limits again, and players with more money than they know what to do with. the auction prices were increased to values that make them unattainable to the players that would actually benefit from the yearlings, race them, and enjoy having them in their barn.

Intermediate players shouldn’t have been included, I was excited (just like the other intermediate players) because I thought I might get a nicely bred filly for cheap (of which imo there were only 2 in the auction), but $300-$500k for an a chance at an allowance/stakes filly who might inherit the Stewardbred mare curse is not cheap, and honestly not a gamble a new/junior player should take.

Although, I could be bias because pinhookers make me irrationally angry/annoyed. 🤷‍♀️

I am not pinhooking - I said I am unsure of the best course of action.

I’m hoping she can actually be a DM filly and can also make her money in the shed
