Steward's Foal Auction

Post by Sara Julin »

The pain you feel after a Stewards Auction has ended and you were super prepared (because the last two ones I left empty handed) but once you start bidding in this last auction the last 10 minutes you get technical issues where the system doesn't allow you to place a maximum bid... so you are forced to raise your bids with one dollar here and there...
Anyone else who had this issue?

I only got one horse... not really a favorite of mine... but... always something...
Did you get what you wanted, guys?

I was pretty indifferent in this auction and went in looking for value to save up for next year, instead of my normal blow all the money mentality. I picked up a pair of unnamed foals in divisions I'm pretty light in, TM and TS, and am excited to see how they gallop next year.

Oh no, how frustrating. Maybe you can pick up a pinhook, I imagine with this many sold there will be a few options. Since moving last year my internet is sometimes slow and pages randomly won't load, so when everything goes crazy the last few minutes it's been hard to keep up for me as well. But after missing out on the first auction due to this I was able to adjust my bidding strategy a bit and just set high bids on as many of my favorites as I could and hoped some would go through. This time I ended up spending more than I should have because I got 3 fillies for around 1,8 million each, but I'm happy because they are all from very good lines :)

After the Steward's post in the Superbia thread, I really thought I would have to go much higher to get Disturbia, and was pleasantly surprised that didn't happen.

I wanted a turf sprinter colt, and picked up Iron Spirit. Given how high some of the prices have been for turf sprinters, I was surprised I didn't have to go higher.

I shopped around for my third pick, because there were lots of nice horses, looking mostly at turf routers, and ended up with There There There x Minding, although I was tempted by Under Caution. She was another I thought might go higher.

Also, as a friendly public service announcement - remember to insure your foals! Steward-breds no longer come automatically insured.

Got a nice looking DR colt for under $350k, which seems like a great deal to me considering out of the 12 or so horses that made my shortlist only 1 other horse went for under $1 million. I was expecting to spend quite a bit more so not only did I get a steward-bred but I also am in a comfortable spot financially which means it's time to get breeding. I was considering pinhooking him initially (and still might) but now I'm reconsidering. It would have to be a perfect offer for me to decide not to keep him now I think.

I actually ended up with an underbid! A pricy one but an underbid nonetheless. Named her Point Nemo. She's the There There There filly out of the Moon of Atlantis dam line. I like her a lot!

Also got a couple colts, including a dirt router I really liked by Mr. White Socks out of Spooky that I managed to get for under $1 million and a really cheap turf sprinter out of my Dad's TS stallion Handen Graphique that is a half to the amazing Thunder Horse!

We shall see how they gallop in a few months!
