The TBS 3 year lease

Post by Ma Springs »

Does it include breeding a foal or "only" racing? Sorry for newbie question.

Yeah? I think I read something along those lines a long time ago, would be nice if it still applies. :) Thanks!

It doesn't officially include a foal.

Here are the facts:
It doesn't officially include a foal
So far, every single person that has leased has gotten a foal
I reserve the right to withhold foals in the instances of say cheating, gaming the system, bullying, etc
You will almost certainly get a foal

I like that omnipotent style. :) Thank you for clarifying!

Be very careful when dealing with The Steward!

I thought that I was doing her a favor in offering her free leases on my mares last year. I said:

Are you interested in "free leasing" any of my unbred mares to help you replenish your broodmare band? Based on my understanding of the latest rules, I would race the filly foal and return the bred 4YO filly to you. No other compensation (Sim$, GPs, etc.) is expected or needed.

She replied:

I had to look and sure enough, I can still free lease! Woohoo!
Listed in order of dreaming about them

1. Day of Saturn
2. Fair Or Not
3. Ma Beagle
4. Loveless Marriage
5. Moonlight City
A little later, I messaged:

Are you interested in "free leasing" any of my recently retired mares to help you replenish your broodmare band? Based on my understanding of the latest rules, I would race the filly foal and return the bred 4YO filly to you. No other compensation (Sim$, GPs, etc.) is expected or needed.

The 3 mares that you might be most interested are listed below.

1. Sometimes I Run

2. Beagle's Kisses (retiring after w16 race)

Beagle's Kisses please!!!!!
Today, I said:
I thought we agreed to the following when I "free leased" you a number of my mares:

All leased mares were returned. But you have sent me only 2 of these yearlings and asked me to return them after their 3 YO season (not as agreed upon).

Today, I see a 2 of these yearlings now in your lease auction --
Fury Or Fair
Hero of the City

2 other yearlings that have not been sent to me are:
Aurora the Great
Beagle Begone
She replied:
You're only allowed to accept two Steward-bred leases per year. What am I supposed to do with the others? Sit on them until they are 3 so I can give them to you?

So your two leases you got back this year are
Saturn Revisited
Sneak a Few Kisses

Next year I will send
Aurora the Great
Beagle Begone

What should I do with the other two since I can't send them to you until Y64? I think they will have to be raced by others and you breed them after they are done.

-Players can only lease two foals from the Steward per year. They are able to lease more mares to her, but give up the right to race those foals themselves. For example, if a player is short on cash, they may wish to lease the Steward three mares, but forfeit the right to lease/race/breed the first foal from the third mare. Any foals that have been "forfeited" as the result of the player already having two leases on the year will go to a lease auction, where players can bid for the chance to race the horses for their entire careers. The Steward can no longer choose who races a foal for her; if the mare owner declines, the foal goes into a lease auction, similarly, if the Steward breeds a foal from her own mare to keep, it must go in the lease auction. Lease auction horses will be named prior to leaving the Steward's barn, and you may have the first foal from them if you lease them out of the auction.

You can find the rules on leasing mares at the link above. Also in the rules it clearly states if you win the auction you get a foals. I find it fair for to stipulate you gotta be a good boy or girl to get the foal though.

Ronnie, respectfully, but you’ve been around this game for long enough to know The Steward ALWAYS does leases up to the end of 3yo season. I feel like with how many messages she receives everyday, and how busy she is as a whole, it’s understandable she may miss a detail like you saying you’d like to lease them until they’re 4.

Like Andrew said, it’s also partially up to the player to know the rules on what The Steward can and can’t do regarding leases. Yes, The Steward could have perhaps reiterated these rules to you before making the deal, but this goes back to my point that she’s busy, and has to respond to a ton of messages on the daily. She hasn’t necessarily got time to be spoon feeding information in every message of hers.

And she is right of course, in that she can’t give you all 6 to race because you’d have to miss the 2yo season with 2 of those foals. She can’t make special exceptions for people because of miscommunication, that would stir up more drama where people would see it surface level and be angry about a rule break (which would be fair in some ways).

And just as a last point, no matter what it is, I find it quite distasteful to share private messages on a public forum.

When I have interacted with players on deals, I have always made sure that I was clear on the details. After stating the terms of my deal, The Steward seemed excited by the deal. She did not make any counteroffer or stipulate any changes to the deal. I thought it was a very good deal -- "free leasing" any of my unbred mares in which I would race the filly foal and return the bred 4YO filly to the leaser.

I was never told about The Steward leasing out 2 of the yearlings. I found out when I looked at her auction -- I was shocked by this.

My issues are with my interactions with The Steward not the horses. I thought we had a good relationship. But I guess she is just too busy,

As far as going forward, I have learned my lesson very well. I will not give, lease, or sell any of my horses to The Steward.

That's harsh words, Ronnie. Sure I believe she could have reminded you about the 2 lease rule, but you as a player are expected to know the rules as well. By playing the game you consent to abide by these rules, the same as the rest of us. You're certainly allowed to be mad but the way you go about complaining it is my issue. I know the rule so why is your longer standing relationship with person in question make you more special than me, or any of the rest of us?

Can't anything be left alone? With all due respect, the RULE (yes, a rule, that we ALL must follow) about only being allowed **two** Steward Bred leases per season has existed for a real life year now. If you CHOOSE to lease multiple mares to the Steward, you are inherently agreeing to that rule.

I don't think The Steward deserves to be slammed on the forums and have private messages posted, Ect simply because you failed to pay attention to/read the rules. I can't help feeling as though behavior like yours is going to get us a one-way ticket to having no lease rights to any of the foals bred by her from our mares - i'm sure it would be a lot easier for her to just dump them ALL into a lease auction, rather than keep track of who is supposed to lease who, and deal with bullying.
