Looking for a "new" mixed breed player to...

Post by Landon Alexander »

I'm looking for a "new/newer/newish/kinda new" mixed breed player to race a hard-knocking wow galloping 3yo Quarter Horse colt of mine. I'm about ready to geld him as he's just been unlucky on the track, but I know my colts have a great history of going off into other people's stables and running lights out so I see this as his last chance.

If you're interested please post here with an explanation of why you deserve to receive the colt (for free). Based on the responses the new trainer may be decided tonight.

I do reserve the right to pick the most appropriate person that I believe will do best by the horse. If no such person responds then I will keep the colt & geld him. :)

Not sure I am considered new (although I don’t have a significant barn with respect to mixers and participated in the MUP in year 35).

Since acquiring Flashing Wow (a Wow QH) through the mixed up program in year 35, I have been paying more attention to quarter horses. I think I generally do well with respect to race placement (especially with better horses). I am looking for a second division to get in to (my focus has been turf milers so far) and this would probably push me firmly into the QH division.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Landon,

I am not New Player status anymore, as I have been moved to Junior about 2 or 3 weeks ago, so I dont know if I qualify, but I'll throw it out there just in case. I have quite a few mixers in my bard, with the most being Quarter Horses. I have atleast 2 nominated to the SC already this year in Simcoe and Cherokee Cheif, the former having won 6 races in a row. I do well at placing horses in races, so I dont think I will have any trouble there, and I have done pretty good with Sorreal Nights since I got him as well. I would be glad to take him off your hands, and try my racing luck with him if you pick me.

Thank you for the consideration!

Hi Landon, you know i would be more then happy to run him for ya. I am still a new player for about another week. I also a fair amount of winning mixers so i know how to run them.
Also the other Qh you sent me to run earlier this season has already won :) so i already show i'm capable of doing the same with this one.
Check my racing stats for year 36, hoping that persuades you :p.

Thanks,
- Pete

I am very late posting as usual so might be to late but here goes

I have been trying out a little in each division so far but have really started to like some of the mixer divisions and qh especially
so far I have gotten a lot of decent runners in qh and one that seems he can be very nice that I also have nominated for the SC and his name is B Ball Scooby
also have a decent 3 year old named Makin Girls Blush who atleast holds a pretty high allowance level and gets to try a stakes now and then
and even my 7 year old gelding after Ghostfreak named Fastfreak can still win the occasinonaal race

I try to keep my horses running as often as I think they can handle and always try to do what is best for the individual horse
as I will if u would give me the chance with this one

I have about 1 or 2 more I'm willing to pass out for free. Just remember, I don't like to be begged for handouts -- I just want to hear how you have been working hard to make it big in the QH world. Why do I care? Because that is how the original group of mixed breed trainers did it... we didn't get handouts. We scoured the sales page and sold privately, trained diligently and did a lot of breeding research to became the stables we are now. I love helping out people, but sometimes it wears on me when I have private messages giving me the "poor me, I can't afford anything" speech -- You can afford things. Remember, there are some very nicely bred "nice" / "winged" type of horses that players offer on the sales page or at auctions that have the potential to get you stakes wins & turn into dynamite broodmares.

Don't take this the wrong way -- it's just my soapbox which I'm climbing off of now... It's my speech for future posters. All the prior posters did just what I wanted & I must say that they have all done a very nice job of making runners out of some of their horse finds! Great job you guys!! We veteran players really are excited to have you join the group & keep us on our toes! :)

A note to the veteran players... Don't swindle a new/newer MB player when they get their hands on a real nice horse (young or old)... If you want what they have give them a good / fair price.... don't rip them off. Be fair. They need to get some good racehorses in their barn and maybe even a star racehorse to keep them interested and participating. Most of us remember what it was like before the MB's... I know I was ready to throw in the towel and quit. Then I found 3 star racehorses. If somebody had ripped me off and offered me a cheap price (me not knowing the difference then) then I probably wouldn't still be playing the game. Just one more little soapbox... :)

On a sorta sidenote... I do have a link on the auction / sales forum that links to wow / scary horses that are for sale on the sales page. Some are very cheap... others not so much. There are a bunch of winged types (colts & geldings) for $5,000 and under on the sales page & there are a ton (nearly 200) QH yearlings at auction (first one closes in 2 days) with wings, etc for very fair prices.

Landon, you do a lot for the mixed Breed community and it is very much appreciated.
The MUP is a great way for any new player to get started in the MB div.

By the way, to give you a good story, I searched and searched all last season to get my hands on any GF mares or filly I could find.
Searched the sales page, searched claim races. Also searched for other special broodmare sires that had known mating combos I could try.

I currently own 45 QH fillies/mares which I believe was able to breed about 30 of them last year.
It results in some HTTs, and wings, but I did get about 7 or 8 wow gallops and 2 scary gallops.

Not bad for my first year of breeding MB.

Anyway thanks again for everything!!

Landon,

Thank you for the horse....it's people like you, Jeff, Kay, Louise, Alex, and Kya who have kept me in the game....I was frustrated when I first started becase I thought i knew what to do, but didnt, and didnt know where to go or what to do...So i read and read, and asked and asked all the questions I could...I studied, and stayed up for AJ every night as a newbie looking for nice horses that slipped through the cracks....Some people say that i got lucky with some of the ones I got....I say i put in all the work and just was able to locate those when they came...all my studying paid off...all the questions paid off...I didnt ever ask for hand me downs....People were nice enough to help me out, and Im in debt to them for it and very thankful....The MUP program is super nice, i'll be sending horses to it every year since it helped me so much...Sorry to ramble on like this....thanks again for everything...

Jack

Hello Landon:

I'd love to be considered. I've been a new player for a couple months. My interest is the mixer breeds and I would probably have fewer t-breds if the mixers raced more than one day/week. Currently my main focus has been pacers and trotters (due to familiarity) but maintain a smaller stable of QH's. My approach so far has been to scour the sales pages nightly to find those gems. My QH racing stable stands at 11 currently. I take a cautious approach with them. The ones I think I have figured out are racing regularly( like Lime Snow and Honeybear). Some I'm waiting on, working on equipment, trying to get them to where they will be competitive. I look to the future with them so I try to do what is best for them. The longer they race, or if and when they become breeding stock, will benefit me more than jamming them in. I try to race them where and when they belong and look at each of them individually (which is probably more time consuming but it is the way I do it and probably why I enjoy it so much).

Sincerely Tom

I am not gonna lie as I will probably never turn down a free horse but I will also never ask out to get a free horse.
I f I get free horses it is because someone else offered and I answered and if I ask for horses I will ask to buy them never to get them for free
and I also feel that the horses I have gotten most of them weren't superstars when I got them and probably never will but some have become pretty nice horses because of the effort I put in to finding out there equipment and trying to put them in the correct races
and thanks tothat effort I now have a couple of really nice qh at least I think so
