Insure Your Horses Folks
Just a friendly reminder to insure your horses so this doesn't happen, lol. I'm usually really good about it she just slipped through the cracks, think I checked my runners for insurance before the SC. She was a progessive type too, but hey, at least she's now an insured blue hen
Turns out I had 3 that improved to freak that weren’t insured

Re: Insure Your Horses Folks
Thanks - that reminded me to check my racing age horses. I usually do that when the year turns over; caught a few improvers that were uninsured.

Re: Insure Your Horses Folks
Opinions please - Understanding that chaser ratings to effectiveness is quite variable - If I can only insure 1 right now with money tight would I be better off insuring my 2 yr old freak chaser filly who's 7f workout time is 2nd now and the same time would have been 7th last year, or the my yearling turf sprinting stakes progressive colt?

I never really feel qualified to give an opinion on things like this, but unless the filly has a nice pedigree I think I'd go with the colt. Though I'd be interested in other people's opinions on this, too.Robert Mcg wrote: ↑3 years ago Opinions please - Understanding that chaser ratings to effectiveness is quite variable - If I can only insure 1 right now with money tight would I be better off insuring my 2 yr old freak chaser filly who's 7f workout time is 2nd now and the same time would have been 7th last year, or the my yearling turf sprinting stakes progressive colt?

I would go for the turf sprinter colt.Robert Mcg wrote: ↑3 years ago Opinions please - Understanding that chaser ratings to effectiveness is quite variable - If I can only insure 1 right now with money tight would I be better off insuring my 2 yr old freak chaser filly who's 7f workout time is 2nd now and the same time would have been 7th last year, or the my yearling turf sprinting stakes progressive colt?
Chasers do their workouts at "any distance", so being 2nd at workout time is not the actual case and chaser freaks are a lot more common than turf sprinter stakes, at least in my barn.

Re: Insure Your Horses Folks
I breed so many claimers and solids that my very rare freaks are 98% insured just due to sheer number of not so good horses...

Re: Insure Your Horses Folks
And just got my 2nd random injury for the year, a stakes 2yo colt who was set to debut today. Wasn’t holding my breath on him so doesn’t sting too bad. Well at least those random injuries are out of the way nice and early in the year, guess I can breed early this year

Oh no, again, how sad! Why can't the claimers or at least some random productives get hit instead! Maybe your barn is too good...?

Re: Insure Your Horses Folks
I only race my Stakes and freaks to keep numbers down, but the sim still has a wide selection of poor galloping yearlings and not so "formidable" mares to injure instead of my stakes galloping runners. Just the sim decided it had a taste for injuring stakes horses this year I guess, lolMa Springs wrote: ↑3 years agoOh no, again, how sad!
