Is anyone having Paint freaks run dead last?

I guess I'm out of the loop on what a competitive gallop comment is atm. Routers are doing OK but sprints and mids are tough.

I have a few freaks that aren't too competitive, there's still a lot of freaks in all 3 divisions so you really never know, not all of them can be at the top. Still it's a lot better than it was several years ago before the last major gallop scale adjustment (I'm always for another one of those, BA comments too). In general though Freaks are your stakes and allowance runners, Stakes are Allowance and claimer horses, good allowance horses can be decent claimers. Sprint being the most competitive, Route being the "easiest". That's my experience at least

Adding to Jo's post, but I have (naturally) a lot less Paint-experience.
I'm currently racing three paints (mids) stakes. They are winning allowances and I may sometimes find spots in stakes where they can go first or second, but generally it's allowance.

None of my paint freaks have done well. I have 2 3year olds and 1 4year old and they are all under 100k earnings.

A thought for you on both of these freaks.

Gallop comment is only part of it. Horses also have a confidence factor and both of these horses appear to have zero confidence. You can’t keep throwing them in a stakes race over and over again for loss after loss and expect that things Will suddenly change.

Try to either drop them down a level to regain confidence or even barrier.

Also each of them has been pretty much running at 3 weeks their entire career and they are not being shipped first class. Try to fit more small breaks in between.

Just a little friendly advice from a guy that knows a little bit about something. Hope it helps.

No freaks to speak of over here but my general experience with paints (and appies, a little bit quarters though I haven't bred much of use in that breed anyway) is that two year old stakes do fine, great even, and then at three they fall apart. I guess all the bloomers catch up and start tearing into each other.

https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1431064 stakes, doing fine now. Her dam was also lovely at two, fell apart very quickly after that.
