This versitile paint "DM"...

...would you go for a sprint or route? Stakes or allowance?

I have to try something but I don't want to mess him up! 😊 Thank you for any input!

I am not quite sure if he is good at route or sprint. I would race him mid stakes as long as he keeps winning.

Keep him at the mid distance. In my experience building up a tri distance division, having tri distance 2 generations back in the pedigree (he has Son of a Paint and EC Jet One) triggers the versatility but they're still better specialist, the 3rd generation is where they start to "even out" their ability. Basically he'll produce better tri distance horses than what he could do as a tri distance horse, Komati is a good example of this. So when he retires list him as tri distance, but for racing performance keep him at 370m.

Don’t just list him as tri without hypoing each division. Ec jet one doesn’t have any route ability, he’s mid and sprint. Rng says your horse could’ve picked up anything or all of it but more likely it would be sprint. If you think it would be fun, give it a try. That’s where I would start, after you get him to 350k.

It’s kinda all or nothing with paints as far as breeding, tri distance should be it’s own division. This stallion likely won’t sire the best specialist sprint or routers, but paired with a tri distance mare will give a decent tri distance. Unfortunately we don’t have tri distance as a division option so you either list them strictly as specialist or all of them. He will likely nick similar to Eventuality who’s one level higher at route than mid or sprint but can produce a good tri distance horse. This is a developing tri distance line if you want it to be, you can take it the tri distance direction or “re specialize” the bloodline with a specialist mid mare. Anyone who breeds tri distance horses will recognize the tri distance bloodline and use him for that if they desire regardless of how he’s listed.

Paints can certainly be dual distance, any combination of the 3. Ec jet one is a qh with dominant sprint, mid ability. In 2-3 generations this line could be 3 distances solid; but right now, unless he got a lucky roll in life, it’s more likely 2. If you call it tri it’s misleading. You’re saying a horse that I only get B+ hypos with is route (or whatever), it wouldnt produce good enough with router mares. I think you have to be breeding mares with A or better in paints, appy, qh. They’re all the same thing just different names. Not that I don’t breed A- hypos too but anything less than is a rodeo horse.

Ok, thank you for commenting! I'm new to mixers so I will listen more than talk. Will hypo to all the things once he retires, maybe it will be B+ all over the map and I will have one problem less! 😆 Might try a sprint for fun at some point.
