Mixer Gallops

Post by Tammy Stawicki »

How'd everyone do?

Here are my numbers, all paint middle/sprint
Year 64
Stakes = 3 (7.1%) (mid = Soren & Empressum, sprint = More Cow Bell)
Allowance = 28 (66.7%)
Productive = 10 (23.8%)
Solid = 1 (2.4%)

Total = 42

Stakes are down a little from last year on par to two years ago, another solid allowance year though as I'm sure you're all aware there is a huge range in the talent of allowance gallopers so time will tell whee they fall on the spectrum.

I'm really sad about my Arabians and Appy mids... They used to be my favorite divisions but they've been declining steadily the last few years and now I didn't even get a stakes yearling. So if anyone has some nice mares - I'd really love to lease them!

The other divisions were meh - Pacers I got this stakes bloomer out of my beloved millionaire Changes by Prodigal Son, really hope he will improve.

Paints I got just one random stakes peak colt by Arlo out of mediocre mare.

Appy routers were by far the best with 3 stakes from 6 bred. Sired by Jamaicanmecrazy, Monkey Brew and Dashs Gold Digger.

Overall I'm disappointed with zero freaks and low stakes percentage (I bred 6-12 per division) :/

I don't think I have bred a natural born freak in 4 seasons. All my current freaks are from improvements.
I guess it doesn't matter as long as they win races =)

If it is any consolation on the appy mid front, Act One, who won the Steward's Cup, was allowance progressive (and still is, after the year turnover).

I bred 93 Arabian sprinters and 36 Arabian routers. The three stakes I got were:

Stakes Progressive router filly from Jett Reno (Breathe Desert Air mare)
Stakes LB router filly from Hate Crystal (Thesee mare)
Stakes Progressive sprinter colt from Able Squire (Talib mare)

That's one of the first Stakes-galloping sprinters I've gotten post-gallop adjustment, so I'm very excited about him. The router fillies are closely related on the female side (the dam of the Jett Reno is the second dam of the Hate Crystal).

Overall, the results are...

Arabian Sprinters:
1 Stakes Progressive
37 Allowance (14 LB, 17 Progressive, 6 Peak)
28 Productive (14 LB, 10 Progressive, 4 Peak)
14 Solid (8 LB, 6 Progressive)
13 Claimer (6 LB, 6 Progressive, 1 Peak)

Arabian Routers:
2 Stakes (1 LB, 1 Progressive)
10 Allowance (all LB)
15 Productive (5 LB, 8 Progressive, 2 Peak)
7 Solid (3 LB, 3 Progressive, 1 Peak)
2 Claimer (1 LB, 1 Progressive)

It's a little more skewed towards Solids and Claimers than usual, but I was also throwing nice mares at a disappointing stallion and giving a few low-producing mares one last chance. Now I can go through and see who I should give up on.

I am really pleased with the allowances and up. I found a Stakes gallop to be a good indicator of actual stakes potential for Arabian sprinters before the adjustment— which I don't deny was needed, but has made it a little frustrating for me personally. It's some consolation that, as a result, any one of those allowances could end up being a reliable stakes horse. Most of the foals I had hopes for ended up at allowance.

I actually had a pretty underwhelming crop. I did try to avoid the top stallions, going for more diverse options so I'm not too surprised or disappointed as some are nice looking broodmare prospects as well as I tried new stallions and learned a bit. I also didn't have time last week to actually look at how smart my choices were and just quickly bred everyone to the booked stud. Not to mention, I'm due for a "meh" crop, had quite a few excellent crops in a row.

Anyway, here's the breakdown:
1 Freak (.4%, Apollitical Pence x Heroes Never Die filly, yes she will be getting sold)
2 Stakes (.9%, QH Sprint - Deniro [Half to Remington], Paint Mid - Soren)
121 Allowance (52.2%)
87 Productive (37.5%)
19 Solid (8.2%)
1 Claimer (.4%, this was an experiment with Zandvoort and a route mare, the other Zandvoort router was Productive/late)

Overall, the lack or Stakes+ is rough, but I'm still quite happy with this crop, over 50% were allowance which I think is still quite good, lots of improver types
Arabian:
Money Run Low - 7.5k
Cass Ole - 5k
Mugello - 5k
All I'll Praise - 5k
Zandvoort - 10k

Paint:
Toby Flenderson - 15k
One In The Woods - 5k
We Can Be Heros - 5k
FLD Eclipse - 3.5k
Scooter - 3.5k

Appy Sprinters: 21 total, one stakes (late bloomer by Eq Cab Etat), the rest 12:8 allowance/productive.
Appy Mids: just the one; an allowance late bloomer, which seems a lot more promising than it did before I saw Laura's post. I haven't played in this division for a LONG time, so the one mare I had left - the dam of this one - died giving birth at 22.
Appy Routers: 6 total, 3:3 allowance/productive.

Paint Sprinters: 5 total, 2:3 allowance/productive.

QH Mids: 9 total, 3:2:3 allowance/productive/okay.

Arabian Router: Just the one, an allowance.

43 total, 0/1/23/16/3/0/0. Only five of 43 are peak right now, so plenty of room for improvement.
