Beagle and Clampett Mixed Names Contest is Here!

Post by Jeb Clampett »

BACKGROUND, PRIZES AND RULES
Everyone is welcome to enter. You can only win one time initially, but, if entries slow down drastically, we'll open it up to previous winners.

The contest gives 10 sets of 3 clues each. Your job is to identify the SIM horse described in the clues. SIM horses may be of any breed, active, retired, pensioned or deceased, but each horse must have SIM race earnings of at least $100,000.

Mixed up names can be:
Alternate meanings for horse name (for example: Defeated by Musical Rhythm = Beat By Beat)
Restatements of name (for example: What an EKG Detects = Beatofmyheart)
There may also be puns, anagrams, use of horse #id numbers and other such devilish tricks. We can’t give away TOO much here.

Great thanks to Bill Outsilver, Iggy Timeeczech and Kelley Wachter for sending in puzzles!
A word of caution: as the puzzles were made up by different people, they will not be completely consistent. For example, capital letters may matter in one puzzle, but not in another; sometimes a run together clue will signify a horse with a run together name, but don't count on it; where the clues “sound out” a horse's name syllable by syllable, sometimes they'll be separated by a “+”, sometimes a “;”and sometimes not at all, and so on.

To win a prize, you need to correctly identify all three of the SIM horses described in any ONE of the sets. Disclaimer: "This game is intended to be fun; the authors realize that there may be arguments for more than one 'correct' answer. However, to make it fair to all, we must only accept what we have come up with. Sorry if you don't like a clue or its answer, but we've tested and retested all of these, and must stick to our guns! Thanks for understanding! - Leonard and Jeb"

The first players to get a set correct gets their pick of any prize still available. Since people were so generous and this year's contest is only 10 sets long, we ended up with more donated prizes than puzzle sets. So after this contest ends, the unclaimed prizes will be used in a real-time Chat contest. The Chat contest will be open to all (even if you've won in this contest) and you only have to answer one puzzle to win a prize. The Chat contest should be a lot of fun. We give more details later.

Rules:
You may now answer in one of two ways:
Find each horse's ID number, add them up and post only the total. (To find the horse ID#, go to the horse's page and look at up at the URL address; the horse's ID# is given at the end of the address.)
So, for example, if I thought the right answers to Set #9 were A Bus, A Crown Awaits, and Acapulco, I would add 9415 + 14273 + 18042 = 41730 so I would post ONLY: (Set 9) 41730
-OR-
Post one horse's name and the sum of the other two. For example, if the answers actually were Awestruck, A Crown Awaits and Acapulco and you posted: Set 13 - A Bus; 32315; you'd get back the response No and Yes. This way, you get more information, but you give away more information to others.

More Rules:
You may enter as many times as you want until you win, but you may only win once until we announce differently.
ONLY ONE GUESS PER POST. You will need to wait until you get a YES or NO from Jeb or Leo before you can post any new answer to any set. We'll try to be prompt!

Discussing/brainstorming/asking/bouncing ideas off of/working with anybody inside or outside of the SIM while you're solving these puzzles is perfectly fine. So go, talk, chat, message ... just have fun; that's the whole point! The only thing you might want to remember is that if we open up the contest later, you might not want to give away an answer that might get you another win!

Prizes:
This year, instead of pure GP or SIM$ prizes, we're spreading them around:
In addition to the prizes below EVERY prize will also include10K SIM$ 3K GPs!

SET 2
Kentucky stew specialist- Burgoomaster 50904 Burgoo is fantastic stew that I really enjoyed when I had it at Keeneland.
Mixed up H'ula Room- Oh L’amour- 96400 This one took awhile. Searched by the (') and kept going through the pages until it fit the letter.
Secondbyalength- Astridefromvictory 2541 This one drove me nuts until I searched by stakes winners and looked for a run together name that fit.

I will take prize 9) Laura Ferguson - A foal out of Blue Condor (Black Condor x Siren by Chesapeake Bay) and she'll pay up to $50,000 of the stud fee

Hard work and searching pays off!

I've updated the main post. Contact Laura about your prize. You've also won $10K SIM and 3K GPs. I've sent over the GPs. All SIM $ prizes will be distributed at one time after the contest ends.
