There was something about the man, something off. The air seemed to ripple and sparkle around him as he floated towards the alert filly. He raised his hands to his hood, as he lowered it he spoke...

Revealing an eye patch over his right eye, "I have come with a proposal for you"....

I have a really not so interesting question on my mind, so I might just ask here...

It is about sports... if there is a situation where it might be wise to not to do the best in a league match.

Ok more specific.. Swedish hockey league.
Leading team is Lulea. Situated way up north.
Bottom two teams are Rogle and Malmo.. situated way south.. we are talking a distance that would cost a lot more than 100 SIM$ to travel here..

Remember this situation is just hypothetical.
Rogle and Malmo will meet at the last game. Rogle is one point ahead at this moment. Rogles penultimate match is away against Lulea. Malmo already lost their penulitmate game...

Nah, this is too much text. Lets make it simple.
Rogle needs to win match against Lulea or Malmo. One of them is enough.
Should they even bother to fly to Lulea at all???

Of course they should is the first response...

But lets play mathematics.
Lulea is a very good team playing at home ice. The probability that Lulea will win is 90% (remember hypothetically)
The last game is a toss up. 50% win chance for both teams.

Worst scenario is that our team Rogle loses both games. Risk for that is 0.9x0.5=0.45 or 45%
If Rogle stays at home, rest and practice and make sure to avoid injuries they might increase their chances in the next game.
It is enough to increase win% to 56% this way to justify not going away, being injured and tired for the important game...

All trainers always say that "we take one match at a time". Wouldnt it be better to say "We take two matches at a time"?

Polk, the extent of my hockey knowledge is derived from the movie, SLAPSHOT.

Basically I started thinking about this when I tried to put my son asleep. I knew Flizan would be not so interested to hear another of my "theories of no importance" or a "new invention that just might work" so I decided to write it here just to start up this thread again.

Come on. Free Game Points! What are we waiting for??

That's what happens when you do these things early in the morning after a night out... 4234 was what it should have said clearly.

Can I now arrest you for crimes surrounding the use of capital letters?
