Count me in, not that I follow “Fantasy Football” et al, but step by step, forgive me now if I ask a seemingly stupid question as time goes by. For example, who comes up with the pool of horses to be drafted?

And if you lease me a horse for $100k, I’ll donate to the fun!

No one. They are all eligible. But it would be best if you pick horses who will still be running, and in turf routes to boot, since turf route points earned will be the only points counted. ;)

In other words, it's best for participants to start researching the turf route scene now.

(If the draft starts and someone picks a turf router which then is retired later during the break, that drafter will get to pick a replacement as soon as they can. If someone drafts a turf router and the horse gets retired early in Year 50, though, the drafter is out of luck.)

That's the hope, that the draft will move along during the two weeks of break and be completed before the year starts.

It's different from the Triple Crown Trail, where you can select eight horses from the pool of nominated runners and they can be the same as other contestants. In this game, there will be a literal draft, just like professional sports leagues do drafts, and each contestant will take a turn selecting a turf router. No horse will be owned by more than one owner. (For example, let's say the contestant who gets the No. 1 overall pick selects Fireproof. Fireproof then comes off the board and no one else can pick him. Then the second contestant drafts Quieter Time. Now those two are off the board.)

The draft order will be randomized (using the random.org generator).

HOWEVER ... if I wind up with more participants than expected, the format for the contest may change. I will deal with that if/when I have to.

I think you can send me $99,999 without needing a horse to do it. I will find it in me to forgive the missing SIMolean.

That brings the prize pool to $240,000 for first, $100,000 for second and $60,000 for third.

I now have a $500,000 prize pool ($300,000 received and another $200,000 promised) and 14 players (which will likely grow some more), so I’m going to adjust and pay out five spots on a percentage scale of 50-20-15-10-5.

$250,000 for first
$100,000 for second
$75,000 for third
$50,000 for fourth
$25,000 for fifth
