Year 56 Turf Route Fantasy — DRAFT THREAD

Post by Dan Kauffman »

Each player, when it is his/her turn, will select ONE turf route runner. That player will be the ONLY one to have that horse.

There will be SIX rounds, meaning each player will finish the draft with six horses in his/her stable. In all, 144 horses will be selected.

Horses will earn points during Year 56 based on the number of points they win in actual turf route races. The total number of points awarded in a race is mentioned in each race's description (typically 100 for a Grade 1, 80 for a Grade 2, 60 for a Grade 3, 40 for a listed stakes, 20 for an allowance and 10 for other races). Of the points awarded in a race, 50 percent goes to the winner, 30 percent to the runner-up and 20 percent to the third-place finisher. No points will be awarded to a horse for races other than turf routes.

In any turf route race with a purse of at least $1 million, I will award a total of 200 points (100 to the winner, 60 to the runner-up and 40 for third).

If a player drafts a horse that is retired BEFORE the start of Year 56 (presumably while the draft is still ongoing, as the draft will take several days over the break), that player can select a replacement horse as soon as possible. If a horse retires DURING Year 56 (say, after the Pegasus races Week 2), that horse CANNOT be replaced.

I STRONGLY recommend that each player send a private message to the player whose turn is next after making a pick. That will help the draft run in a smoother, more timely fashion (though I am sure there will still be periods where no selections are made due to a player being asleep/time zone differences etc.) Note that the player who picks at the end of each round also makes the first selection in the following round, in essence making two straight picks.

PRIZE POOL SIM $900,000
$540,000 for first (plus a broodmare lease from Cleo Patra)
$225,000 for second
$135,000 for third

ALL SELECTIONS MUST BE MADE IN THIS THREAD.

Please do NOT mention undrafted horses in this thread while the draft is taking place.

I will do my best to keep an updated list of draft selections in the thread (actually, I will update this very post) as picks are made.

I'm going to open the draft early because most of the retirements appear to have been made already.

Just a reminder: If a player drafts a horse that is retired BEFORE the start of Year 56 (presumably while the draft is still ongoing, as the draft will take several days over the break), that player can select a replacement horse as soon as possible. If a horse retires DURING Year 56 (say, after the Pegasus races Week 2), that horse CANNOT be replaced.

Also, once again, I STRONGLY recommend that each player send a private message to the player whose turn is next after making a pick.

One other thing: If you know you will be away from the forum for a while, please send me a list with your top 5-10 horses listed, and I can make your pick(s) when they come up. That also helps the draft keep moving.

THE DRAFT IS OPEN. TD Palm has the first pick.

Safe Place to Land was No. 1 on my board (for reasons I am not going to mention until the end of the draft, if asked).

At the end of the draft I'm going to take my top six undrafted horses and see how I fare this year. I will not be eligible for prizes.
