This is a Java application. If you have not disabled Java applications on your computer, you click (or double click) on this application's icon to run it.Corey Lange wrote:OK computer illiterate, stupid question here, why is this not working for me? Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
First I want to say thanks for making this. Has added to my enjoyment immensely.
One small feature I think that could be added is to highlight the users horses. Should just be able to enter a user name and if it sees that as an owner in the DB it highlights the users horse.
Just trying to help

I was having the same issue, then enabled Java applications. Now I click on the icon to run the program, and nothing. :/ Tech-savvy people, what am I doing wrong?Ronnie Dee wrote:This is a Java application. Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
After multiple attempts to get the .jar file to run and several hours spent in help forums and troubleshooting, I've decided that my computer hates Java and will not run it. So while I would love to see how this works, I'm unfortunately going to pass.

I think my computer hates Java, too. :/Madelene Gilbert wrote:After multiple attempts to get the .jar file to run and several hours spent in help forums and troubleshooting, I've decided that my computer hates Java and will not run it. What type of computer do you have?Madelene Gilbert wrote:After multiple attempts to get the .jar file to run and several hours spent in help forums and troubleshooting, I've decided that my computer hates Java and will not run it. What is the computer's operating system (e.g., Windows 7, Windows XP)?
When you get an error what does the error message say?

Computer is brand new this summer. Running on Windows 7 (Service Pack 2)Ronnie Dee wrote:What type of computer do you have?Madelene Gilbert wrote:After multiple attempts to get the .jar file to run and several hours spent in help forums and troubleshooting, I've decided that my computer hates Java and will not run it. Java Run Environment is most recent (Version 6 Update 29).
I'm getting no error messages of any kind. However, my guess is that the problem is that Java is recognizing the .jar file as an archive (like a .zip) rather than executable. It does say "executable .jar file" in my Windows Explorer, but it won't run if I double-click, run a command to open, use "open with..." from menu, etc. I can open it in my .zip program, which merely shows a bunch of .class files (which cannot be opened without an editor and there's no executable file included to run).
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Java multiple times. This included both x32 and x64 bit versions. Unfortunately, when I ran the check on java.com to see which version was on my computer, half the time it didn't recognize I had Java installed. Also, when I checked my program list (in control panel), Java appeared as an update and not as an original program; of course, that just might be how it shows up.
Anyway, I've tried resetting the file to program settings manually by designating the file path to the javaw.exe to open .jar files, to no avail. I've opened the DOS command prompt window in an attempt to use the "java -jar filename.jar" command to run the file, again to no avail.
I've done a search for all Java .exe files through the Java Console and enabled all of them, so I know this isn't due to Java being disabled.
EDIT: As I mentioned, I've done multiple forum searches and troubleshooting searches to try and fix this problem. I've tried running the .jar file on other computers with Windows 7 and it won't run as well. According to my research, this is a fairly common issue.

Re: My (Crude) Sim Race Animator
I should also add:
I've downloaded the SimAnimator, SimCaller and SimRacer2.jar files. The most recent update comes up as a broken link. The only one that remotely worked was the SimCaller.jar. That at least opened in the JRE, but when I entered a RaceID number nothing happened. Even selecting from the different drop down menu options produced no results.
