Re: Curiosity: Horses Who've Changed Gallop
Claimed this mare last year. She was an allowance yearling/two year old and not re-galloped after until this season, though I suspect she didn't change until mid-year last season. She is now a stakes.
Of course, I had a gelding do that who had much less success when I tried to switch him out of claiming company. He is still a stakes galloper running in claimers to this day because he can't even hit the board without a claiming tag.

Over the course of her galloping career this horse has improved from allowance to stakes (sometime between year 49 and 52) to freak (today, year 53).

Can we make it so we can still read our horse’s notes when they kick the bucket? And maybe still be able to see the mares’ BSA comments?

trip out at this: literally -> claimer to stakes, not that it helped much on the racing front.

Dam: Say Goodbye
Y50-W3-D1 Trainer: Right now, 'Horse 1523591399' looks like a claimer, but don't despair because they are a solid source of income, and can always improve with racing experience!
Y51-W9-D1 Trainer: 'Horse 1523591399' is a stakes quality horse.
AND this is why I tend to not GP or sell fillies and mares much

Well although not currently racing, Gecko is an interesting example of this.

He went from galloping Claimer to galloping Freak to then galloping Stakes. All within 2 sim years!
Pretty impressive!

Article is up, heart still broken, but she should be here...
Far Fetched
Frankel x Seemed Unlikely (Old Dan)
Claimer to Freak
Change would have occurred: 53.9

That almost happened to me... I gelded and gped a HTT turf miler, who jumped up after I GPed him but out of random luck, I BSed him in AJ and saw he was a Buy buy buy, rebought him and he was a stakes.

Re: Curiosity: Horses Who've Changed Gallop
I just picked up a Turf Router from D's Racing Stables Dispersal auction that improved.
His whole career he was a Stakes (Including late year 51), and I just got him for 43K, galloped him, and he is now a FREAK!
First Freak TR I have ever had! Hopefully the year long break hasn't hurt him to much!

Re: Curiosity: Horses Who've Changed Gallop
I've had a few horses that improved. Often only claimer-->solid, or allowance --> stakes. But I have some questions...
WHEN can a horse improve? Is it week 1 or 9 only? Or is it when it wins a race? Or when gelded? What year? Could you expect a 4 or 5 y old claimer to improve? When is it "safe" to dump a horse?

Re: Curiosity: Horses Who've Changed Gallop
Improvements happen at the following times:
Week 1
Week 8 Day 7 (after the day 6 results basically)
After gelding
After making their first start
I think a lot of horses improve during these changes but not enough to warrant a gallop change so it doesn’t seem like they have improved. It’s impossible to say when you should give up on a horse but definitely the better the pedigree the better the chances of improvement.

Re: Curiosity: Horses Who've Changed Gallop
Can be during or after their first start, i.e. the improvement might show up in the first race or the second.
