How did you do? (gallops)

Post by Carole Hanson »

Spoiler alert, I did bad :lol:

0 Freak-0%
0 Stakes-0%
14 Allowance-40%
4 Productive-11.4%
Total: 51.4%
-------------------------------
2 Solid-5.7%
14 Claimer-40%
1 Different Career-2.9%
Total: 48.6%

On the surface it actually doesn't look that bad considering My productive and above % is higher than my solid and below. But getting not even a stakes is bad. Although I knew that this was going to happen, my best mare was pensioned after her now 2yo was born and my blue hens (including Queen of Atlantis, agh!) don't want to produce anything better than allowance so I've got to wait to see if I have something nice to retire soon.

From 46 gallops I had
2 freaks
7 stakes
16 allowance
8 productive
7 solid
6 claimers

Stakes
Be the Greatest (CA) - bl.c.1 out of Be Delightful
Endearments (CA) - dkb.f.1 out of Passion
Guesses (NY) - b.f.1 out of Blame Canada
Guide Her Home (LA) - dkb.f.1 out of She Stole My Heart
No Way Never (FL) - ch.f.1 out of Alsotravelsintime
Perfume (CA) - bl.f.1 out of Remember Me
Worthy Ruler (FL) - gr.f.1 out of Worthy

Freaks
Huge (TX) - bl.c.1 out of Takemybreathaway
Vivacia (NY) - b.f.1 out of Striking

Overall fairly happy, but I would definitely have liked it more if a few of those allowances had skipped to stakes! They might yet though.

No improvements in my older cohort.

I had hoped for at least one stakes this year around from one of my blue hens, but alas... no stakes this year :'(

But I got 6 Allowances,
9 Productive and
3 Claimers
out of 18 foals this year.

So I guess that isn't all TOO bad.

It was interesting.

35% allowance or better, out of 20 foals.
1 freak, 2 stakes.

I’ve decided that out of 30+ mares, only 2-3 are really probing their worth routinely! LOL

Spoiler Alert #2
Will re-take Breeding 101

I don't understand how this happened! I bred 13 horses (one was given to me and he's a claimer) and out of the 13 mares, 8 were blue hens or stars. The others were formidable. I bred even fewer horses than I did last year, and the results were worse. I always did nicks with the horses, and some of the blue hens who nicked A-'s produced claimers. I don't get it.

Other than the stakes colt by James Dean and the appy stakes filly out of Boom Cat, I have nothing to brag about.
Clearly, the odds were not in my favor again this year.

All these are turf milers:

Allowance = 4 (33%)
Productive = 2 (16.7%)
Solid = 3 (25%)
Claimer = 3 (25%)

I never get stakes thoroughbred galloping homebred yearlings and that's tied for my 2nd highest allowance percentage ever so I'll take it. Also exciting once again my own stallions were overrepresented in the highest gallopers. I sent Peaceful and Red Ferns 2 mares each out of the 12 I bred (33.3%) and they both got one galloper (50%).

Spoiler Alert #3

Everything in my little barn was claimer :shock: :shock: Fern, I think I need to take 101 again. I don't understand it, everything nicked well, all were either blue hen, star, or formidable. I think this game hates me breeding.

I don't breed much and never took the breeding 101 course of study and it tends to be obvious. So I bred 8, got 3 claimers, 2 productives, 2 allowance and MY FIRST HOMEBRED FREAK (DR filly)!!! Makes is all worthwhile.

Oh, no, Ashley. I'm sorry. You've made me feel a little better (lol) but I'm sorry for both of us!
I don't understand the "random slide" at all, but blue hens and stars who nick A's and still produce claimers? I don't know.

A freak for you, Keith!!! That's wonderful. I've only bred two in my few years here, and I sold them both.

That is wrong to have that kind of bad luck. I think I will wait about a week too gallop so I can prepare for the let down.

I bred only my second TB freak ever, and a rare TB stakes. Both were in the turf sprint division. The ironic thing is that I have four turf sprint studs, and was for sure going to sell Danny Pink (and almost did a few times this past year or so). I only bred two foals by him. One was a claimer, the other the freak. The stakes was by Gunmetal Grey.

Both the stakes and the freak were out of formidable mares with B+ nicks. The blue hen mare with an A- nick in the division got an allowance foal. The blue hen mare with a B+ nick got a solid foal. Four star mares with B+ nicks all had allowance foals.

I agree! I mean at least give me an allowance or something!
