Little Things Still Make Me Smile

Post by Keith Maidlow »

So I have been in the SIM for quite awhile, won a few big races, had a big money producing successful stallion, even have a "big" horse right now. But every now and then something marginally insignificant makes me smile.

Two days ago I get this guy in an all allowance auction for $34,567, Scary Injury. Last night I ran him in the $75K "Claiming Cup Express" at 6f in the mud (he likes mud), he wins, gets me $37.5K and makes me smile.

Just had to share.

Any little things make you smile here in the SIM?

So many! I love your immediate, almost exact ROI, though -- that's pretty fun.

Love getting fun little wins. Last night I won for the third time with a productive miler who cost me five grand and has made back eighty.
Finding gems in AJ, doing equipment "the hard way" and being right, coming up with the perfect name... all smileworthy things that have little to do with big horses or big races.

Stallions to meet your every need. As long as you need a turf sprinter.

Had a filly I claimed early in the game for $1500, she was a solid galloper and I retired her to get an unpredictable BSA and B hypos but, since I knew no better. I bred her and to my surprise got an allowance galloper. Well today was that foals debut, she won with ease and a nice speed figure. Made me smile when I logged on to see it :)

i entered 6 horses into the European races for today. One finished 7th, one finished 2nd and the other 4 horses finished in first place, with one of those being a stakes win...from my little allowance mare, Time Alone.
This is her 2nd stakes win in a row and her winning streak is now at 5 wins.
Bonus: I bred all the winners so I get the Breeders Awards too. :)

Time Alone

This mare loves mud, so I've been trying really hard to keep her on yielding or soft surfaces - the race she won today was on a good surface.

Her dam was a star mare, and I just sent her to Rift Storm, a son of Time Lord - Time Lord was the sire of Time Alone. He's pensioned now, so I hope Storm Rift will pair up nicely with Mul Ae Byeolpe and I can get another nice foal from her. Mul Ae Byeolpe, in Korean, means Starlight on Water, and is pronounced mUl-Aye Be-yOl -- the pe is silent

Stormy
SIRES: Turf Routers - Each multiple G1 winners

Tuck Everlasting
Fee $30,500

Wolfman Jack
Fee $18,000

Stormy I have a feeling she has upgraded to 'stakes' judging by her 90 SF week 7

Bought this from an Eric Nalbone thing on the sales page during the break.

Productive. Kept galloping her until recently. Hoping for maybe a little bump.

I figured ... it's Eric Nalbone-bred.

And, I got my $5k back in the first race.

I always tell myself when I buy them, I'm going to get that one win. Then, I'll retire it and get a blue hen because, well, it's ... Eric Nalbone bred.

(I had to make the race. But it's only a dollar, and she is debuting at five years old, and I like seeing older horses wait forever to see a race track and then win ... so that's pretty good for a smile.)
 I always pay attention when Eric Hamme talks about horses running in Maryland.

My little thing is that this horse named Good Ninja needs a shadow roll.

I just galloped her and she has, indeed, jumped from an allowance to a stakes quality. : )
