Post by Carole Hanson »

Very strong fields in both races, the Oaks especially looks wide open!

London Oaks
All 6 are Graded Stakes winners
2 Have already won Grade 1's
All fillies have earnings of over $125,000
Lowest top lifetime SF among the field is 90

London Derby
3 Grade 1 winners from field of 5
2 have already earned over $500,000
Winners of the German Derby, Magellan Stakes and the Lousiville Bunbury face off

Into the Darkness proved yet again how much of a freak she is by running stone cold last producing yet another substandard SF. 73,79,59,71 in her last four outings, can't help but be impressed by her excellent consistency. Maybe I will try an NW3 next time and see if she can actually run 3rd.... Might need a 3 horse field to get such a positive result.

She definitely needs a confidence boost, maybe try giving her a bit of a longer break and give her a workout or gallop to keep her fit and then enter in an easy conditions race? And then just aim for the big races next season.

Yep. Sometimes I do that in both my barn and the barn I'm the asst. trainer in.

Give 'em four or five weeks off. Maybe a swim or a gallop or even a timed work, if they're Sound+. Then a couple shedrow walks, if needed.

It actually works sometimes.

Stoked with Showman's performance! He has me thinking all sorts of crazy thoughts. Looking forward to the rest of his career to say the least.
