Welcome aboard, Frank. I am also in the over 60 group, (although I did start playing in my 50's), and I've enjoyed all of it. We have some oldsters in their 70's + playing. Just take your time, read everything you can read and don't worry about purchasing breeding stock at this time. Purchase solid horses that will make you some money in the races for now. You can also sign up for the Mentor Program if you choose. Hop into the Chatroom and ask questions; nearly all the folk her are friendly. Best of Luck!Frank Chilton wrote: ↑4 years ago Hi guys, a bit old for giving online racing a go 65yr old

Re: new player giving it a go
In general, it's a horse that prefers to go a distance.
In SIM, it's a horse that is bred to race beyond one mile (8 furlongs). However, for Thoroughbreds, this can include races as short as 1-1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs) up to more than two miles (16 furlongs). So, SIMsters often refer to "short routers" and marathoners, to indicate what subset within the broad route category the horse is best at.
For Arabians, the three route distance are 1-1/4 miles, 1-1/2 miles, and two miles.
For the stock breeds (Appys/Paints/QH), the route distance is 870 yards, which is the same as a half mile.
