A snap shot of purse decreases

Post by Leigh Ann Anderson »

Okay, my stats aren't great. I enjoy racing my top horses and the others might or might not get entered routinely or even at all. There has been much made about how to take $ out of the Sim, and I would put forward that the decrease in purses is doing this pretty effectively for most mid level players.

I, occasionally, check my stats comparing year to year. Am I increasing my number of wins? Stakes wins? how are my 2YO's doing compared to last year? Is there a general trend of improvement and if not, lets figure out why.

My stats for this year and last year, with one week left (no SC horses last year):

54 695 : 107-88-87 Win-15.4% OTB-40.6% 17 3 58 23 $2,969,590
53 430 : 64-57-61 Win-14.9% OTB-42.3% 11 1 37 11 $2,040,950

More starts, more wins, similar win/otb %. More stakes wins, G1 included, more maiden wins, more 2 YO wins. Less $ income, by close to $1 million. I can't be the only one who has experienced this.

I mean the whole idea of purse decreases as I understood it was to make it so you couldn’t make as much money per start at the top, it seems to me this is exactly what was supposed to happen.

Did you have your years backwards? Because you’ve made an extra mil this year?

Image

I’m on my phone so here are the collapsed stats:

Year - G1 - MDN - 2YO
Y54 - 3 - 57 - 61
Y53 - 0 - 69 - 94
Y52 - 1 - 63 - 59
Y51 - 4 - 85 - 38
Y50 - 0 - 71 - 27
LTM - 8 - 345 - 279

I not 100% sure if it’s the purse fix or my lack of doing “side jobs” this year, but I definitely feel poor. I’m usually sitting around $100k since I breed my mares throughout the year, as soon as I get more than that I will breed a booked mare. Usually my breeding is done by week 12 or 13, this year even though I have less mares than ever, I had to lease out about 100 and I only have just over 200 foals bred for the year (previous years I’ve bred: Y50-359, Y51-696, Y52-538, Y53-327).

I’ve also attempted to stop my horse buying and failed lol BUT my spending has been GREATLY reduced in that area. It’s hard to compare those numbers because I’ve bought horses for my partnership, I’d have to do math, and I don’t wanna :p

But yeah. I have circled the financial drain all year, more so than any other year. There are lots of factors that can contribute, exchange income, doing extra jobs for people, over $300k less in board fees, 1.1 mil less from feature race articles, loss of 1.7 mil in stud fees (though that lease contributed to me getting all my pretty paints). The really visible change is in my race earnings.

160 less starts, but almost the same result numbers (not percents) for Win/OTB, more stakes wins, 3 G1 more wins than last year 🤷‍♀️

D'oh. Math has never been my strong point. And I somehow never question my lack of world domination.

Your average earnings are actually up like $800(nice job)so I would say it's lack of side jobs.

It is working at the top end. I race largely in stakes and my average earnings per start has dropped from $68,170 last season to $58,627 and that’s having won 2 more G1s this year. Definitely not a complaint though. I’m doing fine financially.

I'm probably a low level player with my stable size despite having the expert trainer tag. I got rid of a lot of money sucking horses and my year this year has been better than last year. Winning a tct prize didn't hurt either. But I'm having a better year this year than last as far as wins and earnings.
I'm Joe bengston in the Sim, so just call me Joe.
