Re: Will you be using First Class Shipping?
Since you can’t turn it on for individual horses I have it turned on to see what the costs will be. I ran 142 mixers last night. With first class shipping turned on it cost almost 70k to ship those horses home. With the same cost to send them to the track that’s $140,000 in shipping costs for one nights racing. I don’t understand how much more you want it to cost.
With no Jr or Kwok around, I’ll probably set a shipping record for a season. If I continue to use this feature I’m guessing my shipping bill will be around 8 million.
So my cost for first class shipping is basically a stewie or two.

Re: Will you be using First Class Shipping?
I turned it on after the first four days of racing this season, when I was using economy shipping as always, and I am at my worst win/OTB percentages in over 15 SIM years. I'm not saying there's a correlation between not using first class and my awful numbers, but I cannot afford to lose even the tiniest of advantages at this point, or my stable will start eating itself from the inside out (oops, it already did, operated over $2 million in the red last season without any extravagant purchases and more "budget" breedings).

Does anyone know where the first class shipping update thread is? The one where this was introduced that was linked to the front page by the steward. Can’t find it in the FAQ or Steward Notices.

It’s not a separate thread, just an add-on to the original (many years ago) thread about shipping in general.Pete Vella wrote: ↑4 years ago Does anyone know where the first class shipping update thread is? This - it makes it tricky to find, because the shipping is on page 2 of the Help and FAQ category, because it shows as being last updated 11 years ago, and not more recently. It took me a while to find, too.Glenn Escobar wrote: ↑4 years agoIt’s not a separate thread, just an add-on to the original (many years ago) thread about shipping in general.Pete Vella wrote: ↑4 years ago Does anyone know where the first class shipping update thread is? Re: Will you be using First Class Shipping?
The FAQ is worded weird. What it means is that horses rests during the trip as it's not stressful. So it doesn't make the horse more tired while shipping. First class shipping is like a freeze in tiredness and fatigue. If a horse had a tiredness of 10 after the race, it would still be 10 when it arrived at it's destination. Whereas with normal shipping, it might gain an additional 2 points of tiredness. So at the end of a normal shipping trip the horse would be at a tiredness of 12.Tammy Stawicki wrote: ↑4 years agoNot necessarily. While we know horses using first class shipping aren't getting tired and are actually resting we don't know how much rest they are getting and my guess (with admittedly no evidence to back this up) is that it is less than farm rest. So yes looking at just the ship the local economy 1 hour van added tiredness whereas the first class transcontinental actually took some away, but the local 1 hour shipped horse was then starting to accumulate farm rest an hour after its race where it will be a full 24 hours before the transcontinental horse will be on a farm getting farm rest. Don't know the numbers to know how things would compare but I feel as if the time away from a farm when using first class shipping is not really being added into people's equations. Still obviously better than economy when they were actively getting tired (though not away from a farm for quite as long) but not sure I'd say a long first class ship is better than a short economy one.Laura Smith wrote: ↑4 years ago A horse that ran W14 in Australia and shipped first class to the SC in, say, Kentucky, could actually have an advantage (in terms of rest) over a horse that ran W14 in KY and shipped ("economy") to the farm next door, because even that hour van ride adds more tiredness than a first class transcontinental flight.
The shorter ships will likely still have the advantage if competitors have a longer ship as once they are at the farm they are losing tiredness and fatigue. First class shipping your horse isn't changing and it takes 30% longer in transit. So more time where they are not reducing tiredness or fatigue.

Re: Will you be using First Class Shipping?
I would love to see this be a selective shipping option, even if the price increases significantly. I'm happy paying 3x the normal shipping cost (or more) for my stakes horse, but spending $500 to ship a claimer into/out of Alaska from Price is Right is a bit much. It's hard enough to make profit with my crummy claimers, much less a bump of doubling their shipping fees.

I think it could be made selective without the intrinsic need to increase the cost.Leigh Ann Anderson wrote: ↑4 years ago I would love to see this be a selective shipping option, even if the price increases significantly. I don't see how it would be any more complex than the way that Home Locations are an option, they can be set selectively, and thus any given horse may or may not have one without impacting all the others.

Assume a player uses First Class Shipping
and averages 1 additional start per horse per year
and averages, at least, $5K per start.
Wouldn't the additional earnings from the additional start more than cover the additional cost of First Class Shipping?

Re: Will you be using First Class Shipping?
Is it so much about getting more starts? Or better effort for the normal races and the ability to ship further without repercussion?
I'd take the latter as the only thing to focus on. Perhaps your runner gets you a stakes win versus a second place finish with 1st class shipping. at the low end, you're talking an extra 15k. Well worth it for our top performers.

If most good players will be doing better financially (increased earnings > increased shipping costs) using First Class Shipping, how does First Class Shipping take more Sim$ out of the economy?Lee Tuttle wrote: ↑4 years ago Is it so much about getting more starts? The overall purse money hasn’t changed so even if individual people are making more they are doing at the expense of other people not at the expense of more money going into the sim.Ronnie Dee wrote: ↑4 years agoIf most good players will be doing better financially (increased earnings > increased shipping costs) using First Class Shipping, how does First Class Shipping take more Sim$ out of the economy?Lee Tuttle wrote: ↑4 years ago Is it so much about getting more starts? I am also still not convinced this would increase the race capacity of a locally based horse as I can’t see a couple hour can ride taking that much out of a horse. So I only seeing it increase race numbers on horses traveling longer distances

The overall purse money will increase because of race splitting.Tammy Stawicki wrote: ↑4 years agoThe overall purse money hasn’t changed so even if individual people are making more they are doing at the expense of other people not at the expense of more money going into the sim.Ronnie Dee wrote: ↑4 years agoIf most good players will be doing better financially (increased earnings > increased shipping costs) using First Class Shipping, how does First Class Shipping take more Sim$ out of the economy?Lee Tuttle wrote: ↑4 years ago Is it so much about getting more starts? Re: Will you be using First Class Shipping?
I am using it for my better horses simply so they don't have a disadvantage in their races. However this seems like a proverbial 'pay to win' item and therefore I hope it goes away.
It's also kind of dumb my horse is penalized for drawing the rail but hey there's no penalty for shipping him or her halfway around the world the day before.
