Year 56 Goals

Post by Aaron Tonning »

Thought it might be fun to list Goals for this year. The start of my first full year

Last Year (Y55) I had 952 Starts with 75 wins for a 7.9% Win and 31.1% OTB for $1,720,760 in Purses with 2 stakes wins. Avg/St: $1,808
This years (Y56) goal is 125 wins with a 11% Win and 40% OTB and $3,000,000 in Purses with 6 Stakes wins. Avg/St. 2,200

I have a stronger group of horses this year, but no power house horses to take me to the promise land.

Long term goals: Win a stewards cup race - achieved.
Own a TB freak - achieved.
Get a simmy award - still waiting.

Get some really good stallions - working on it.
Conquer the world - I feel like Romeo when I dont win a StewardsCup race. I will get you next time pyjamas racers.

Trimming my stable. No more than 1000 horses in active racing barn. (might sound like a lot but it is tough to retire horses that might win money..)

Most of all. Be the best SIMracer of this household. Flizan will probably beat me this year. Her stable looks promising.

I still have a few things on my SIM-bucket list, though they all range from unlikely to almost impossible to happen this year. Anyway, should I manage to do one of the following I'd consider it a great year:

-Win 10 G1 races (not so likely, but maybe a few of my horses will surprise me (?)
-Breed a thoroughbred freak (or at least more than 3 stakes?? )
-Win a flat G1 with a homebred TB (don't really have a candidate for that I think)
-Win a SC with a TB (could happen with a stewardbred, but highly unlikely)

If none of these happen I'd just like to surpass 5m in earnings (missed by less than 100k the last two years) and win a SC race again after two years without. :)

Longterm, I want to breed a freak tb, too.

Also be more sociable. Get out of my shell.

I think to help with this you should probably not run him in that all weather race week2, that will only confuse him for the rest of the year :)

-Win a Turf Sprint Grade 1
-Win 3 Turf Route Grade 1’s
-Win a Grade 1 with a 2, 3 and 4yo
-Earn over $2.5 million
-Win% above 20%
-OTB% above 55%
-Breed a Freak and 3 Stakes (saving that for gallops next year I suppose, but breeding them this year of course so I’ll count it)

Honestly? Regain the passion I once had for the game.

I can't decide if that is to cut my barn down to like 20 or go hard and run a boat load.

As cool as winning the Derby (and summarily being included in the trainer and breeder of the year ballots) was last year, I was slightly disappointed with some of my other stats, particularly win % and average earnings per start. I know part of that was I races more horses than I ever had before, and I entered way more grade 1s than ever before, so that explains that.

I guess I kinda have three or four goals

1. Get my win% back above 30, preferably even like 35. (As an aside, get my AEPS closer to what it was for the couple of years before last)
2. I want to set a new personal best for most grade 1s won in a season. So far my best in a season is 6. I have more freaks and stakes than I have ever had in my stable, so it seems like that should be doable, except I only ended up with four last year!
3. Actually win a grade 1 turf route race. Despite having some really nice turf routers, they kinda choked in the big races last year, with Kitty Kitty Kitten having 2nds and 3rds in big races before stinking it up in the stewards cup.

Yes, these are all lofty goals, but I feel like with as ridiculous as my racing barn is right now that NOT having such lofty goals would be an insult to what I have.

Win the Pegasus, perhaps test Franzia in a Dirt race. Steward's Cup redemption for Allura.

Decide if I want to cut my barn down, or keep doing what I've been doing.

Learn from my mistakes.

Which will undoubtedly create a void for making new and different mistakes?

Learn more about the pedigrees of dirt routers. In order to get the most from my
limited band of broodmares.

And finally, no matter how much time and effort is spent, trying to micro manage
every detail, so much is still predicated on dumb luck!

I want to get more involved in the SIM community and make some friends :)
I also would like to shoot for an OTB % of at least 60... I hit 58% OTB last season, so it should be doable.
