Stallion Reservations

Post by Danny Derby »

Just going on record saying I think it's bad for the game and is just going to encourage more people to be cliquish and privatize their stallions.

As it stands now, there's effectively no limit to how many mares a stallion can see, so if a stud owner wants to give someone a spot and their stallion is full, all they need to do is open more spots. Given that, why is this even necessary? The potential downside is huge with no upside. Are private stallions a trend that SIM management wants to see more of?

We won't know the unintended consequences of this feature until after it's been around for a while, but I completely agree with the above. I'm sure it'll benefit certain people, but I'm also expecting a lot more friction with this addition.

The thought process is that it is already happening. There are well documented cases of people passing stallions around, sharing them, gifting seasons to others, with it being complicated because of how difficult it is to arrange.

Do we want people to block others from using their stallions? Not necessarily.

Do we want to charge a fee for the ability to do that in a game sanctioned way? Sure.

In the broadcast last night we announced that we liked Ashley Gibson's idea of being able to "gift" a breeding to someone, aka instead of reserving a spot for yourself you can reserve a spot for someone else's mare. People have been doing it for years with a "Okay, I'll be on at this time, and release a spot, and you take it, and then I'll pay you back....." and instead we'll just charge you a fee to make sure they get that spot. That way you can save spots for mares not yet retired, do deals for the future without having to write them down, etc. It's gonna be great!

I've got a hard time believing anything that makes it easier to privatize stallions in the game is gonna be great. As I said before, there's zero current barriers that would prevent someone from having a stallion spot available for another player if they wanted to open more. As it was described last night, it's not even "gifting". It's simply allowing someone the privilege of sending a mare to your stallion, but they still pay the full fee.

Private stallions may be already happening, but why encourage and enable it? As it stands now, it's limited in scope - I can count with my fingers the number of times in my SIM career I've had to "be on at this time" to get a spot released. A game sanctioned mechanic for locking down stallions is going to make the practice more prevalent and open a Pandora's Box of unintended consequences. Is that worth one more avenue to spend GP when there's so many other options?

This is going to cost GP? DMB is going to make the sim rich! I admire the entrepreneurship in this idea, it would be a wise decision for any business to find to new and exciting revenue streams. This is especially so when it is masked in the workings of the game to appear beneficial. That being said danny and carole have valid points.

I don't like private stallions at all....I've asked quite nicely twice to breed a few of my nice mares to certain stallions to no avail....my messages got ignored, which is fine....I just don't understand the whole concept as I would never make it a point to not allow someone to breed to my stallions

Every person who privatizes their studs should be fined $500,000 SIM dollars for their favorite power trip. They should also be hated by the SIM community.
