What is wrong?

Post by Ricky Spanish »

Hey all,

I have https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1194426 this filly I bought recently, she looks like she started out her racing career well, then has gradually gotten worse through her 2yo campaign.. does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get her back to running well again? I thought when I bought her maybe she had just raced too frequently so gave her a 3 week break but that didn't help, I don't really know what to do! Thanks!

First of all make sure the equipment is correct, pretty trivial but it can really mess up a horse.

If that's fine than you probably need to drop her to claiming races. Some horse come out firing their 2 year old year but never do much after that. She may be one of those horses, try to get some confidence back in her and go from there.

Good luck

Hi, Ricky.

I see she ran a race WK12 D5 this year, but then on WK 13 D1, she was galloped and worked in the gate and the paddock? Normally, an active race horse needs no training; unless perhaps coming off a 4 week break. Do you know what her soundness level is? I'm assuming her equipment is correct, but you can ask your jockey from the WK 12 race to confirm.

Maybe ask some of the TS specialists as well; someone like Laura Smith, et al.

Best of luck with her!!

I would not give her anymore workouts until her next Race which should be in week15...I think no stakes races try a nw 3....I see her last race was nw 4 which is over her head right now i believe...

She’s very nicely bred. I’d keep her away from claiming races if she were mine.

I think everyone here has touched on that she’s tired from training between races, and her confidence is low. She’s a good candidate for using the vet to assess her recovery and when the vet says she’s good to go, perhaps a barrier trial to rebuild her confidence.
