I just want to express my deepest gratitude to the SIM team! THANK YOU so much for listening and making retired horses not count toward the totals!

So if I lease the steward a mare and race the offspring, does that count as one of my two horses available? You technically don’t “own” the offspring of the mare, you leased her.

If I'm understanding the rules correctly, leasing and buying are two separate things that each have their own limit per season. So the offspring that you get to race would count toward one of your allotted leases, and you could still acquire two horses through auction, sales page, Ect.

Correct, so basically you can only race two foals of mine that I bred from your mares each year.

So if we have the maximum 2 lease horse that are foals, do we then have to wait 3-4 seasons for the next lease opportunity since those horses will need to run until 3 and then retire?
Or is it 2 per season meaning the next season a player could lease 2 more?

If a horse is given out for, say, a 3-season lease, that still counts as 1 lease, and the next year you can get two more.

I carefully reread the following rule:
-Players can only lease two foals from the Steward per year. They are able to lease more mares to her, but give up the right to race those foals themselves. For example, if a player is short on cash, they may wish to lease the Steward three mares, but forfeit the right to lease/race/breed the first foal from the third mare. Any foals that have been "forfeited" as the result of the player already having two leases on the year will go to a lease auction, where players can bid for the chance to race the horses for their entire careers. The Steward can no longer choose who races a foal for her; if the mare owner declines, the foal goes into a lease auction, similarly, if the Steward breeds a foal from her own mare to keep, it must go in the lease auction. Lease auction horses will be named prior to leaving the Steward's barn.
I never imagined that The Steward would even consider leasing 3 or mares from the same player in a given Sim year. In fact, I thought that 2 leases in a Sim year from the same player would only occur in exceptional situations.

This is a very good question
