What's the most disappointing common experience in the SIM?

Post by Lance Macisaac »

Thought I'd ask this question after waiting all week for my exciting two-year-old fast-working freak to finish sixth in his debut

You can probably guess my answer now, but I thought I'd ask what the most disappointing SIM thing is for you all. Just a fun poll!

Can I vote for all of them? Tbh, most of the time it feels like the worst thing ever, at the time that it happens. I think the only one that really sticks with you is when you have a top top horse lose a big race, simply because you always question whether you did the right thing by placing them there or not (especially true in week 16 when you have a few top grade races to choose from). The other ones you kind of just get over with time, and with other horses or race weeks taking their place.

Definitely waiting for a horse to race, and then they don't run well. That is the worst... because like Carole said, you start to question yourself as a owner if you sabotaged your horses success :/

Waiting for a late blooming stakes, and she turns three. Then she turns four. Then five.

All of the above for sure. It's hard to pick just one.

I would say when a freak/stakes turns out to be a dud.

You have a year (+ 1/2 or 3/4) to get excited about it and then it is 😒

You could also add amazing workout times turned terribly runner to the list 🤣 I still see so many people getting excited about workout times 💔

I was thinking about this last night, I haven’t had much time for the SIM this game year and it’s really showing in my horses.

I’ve had so many close but no luck races and it’s been beating down my desire to play and enter horses 😩

I voted for an overall bad yearling crop. It really hurts when you sink a million dollars or so into stud fees, breeding blue hens and stars, and don't even get a freak or a stakes in the yearling gallops.

I once went about 5 Sim years without a real stakes horse. I might have had one or two...but they were like 'sad wows' .....wows being what stake horses use to be called - and mine sure were not winning stake races.

A bad yearling crop stays with you a long time. Most of the rest of these are momentary blips.

I would agree with all of them. I picked the bad yearling crop though (it was hard to decide!) because i feel it leaves you nothing to look forward to. Maybe hoping that some improve. Especially when you have leased or own some really nice mares and spent a lot of time on research, money on nicks and stud fees, etc. It's especially disheartening, I think, when you have more then one year of sad yearlings (which can happen).

But all of the reasons listed (except that cliff!) are certainly valid. I guess it just goes to show how deeply we can be involved in this game and with our *fake* horses.

Did anyone mention a horse who turned out to be a 'Dud Stud'

Having a good horse reaching his peak and pointed him toward a very lucrative race only to find out the race requires pre-entry and I'm out of luck. Big ship to nowhere, then no where to run.
