Getting the name right ;)
I named Rumble of Thunder before I found out she Loves Mud. She's 3 years old, and the on Friday, in a downpour she won her first GI race, against the boys!
Her 2 efforts on a dry track didn't fair so well...she finished 10th in one, and 4th in another. On wet tracks she has never been worse than 2nd...with the exception of her first race -- I tried her at 5 furlongs. (she's a router) and she finished 6th.
I just gave this yearling a name...based upon him being a claimer late bloomer, and his workout times :
https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1420968&
Maybe I'll have fooled lady luck and the colt will gallop Freak next year...lol.
That will teach me!
More often than not, I've put really awesome names on horses the didn't do that much. Oh Well, at least I can pension, and hold onto the name until the next hopeful comes up and I tag it with the name. One of my favorite series of movies were those featuring the character Billy Jack. I've used the name Billy Jack a total of four times now - all on horses that had no kick.
At the moment...it's on Roughain's stakes progressive colt. Hopefully he'll earn enough that the name will get locked. : )
What are the names of horses you have that you named before hand - that either turned out fitting, or not so much.

Re: Getting the name right ;)
Most of my foals don't get named until I have an idea of how they're stacking up and how much emotional invest I'm going to have in them, but this guy was named right after breeding him because I was in a silly mood and the name came to mind while looking at his sire's name.
Apparently, he went with the attitude of "if Shannon doesn't care, I won't care either!". Claimer progressive.
Edit - I keep saying he/him, but it's actually a filly, I just noticed... unintentionally reinforcing the name

I have a lot of those kinds of gifted horses.Kelly L Haggerty wrote: ↑2 years ago By way of setting expectations, claimer here

After AU was skunked, I did a search and found a name I wanted - the nick name I gave him for about a week after the incident.
It was on like a 36 year old dead horse, maiden, never earned money...but for some reason there was no way to release the name, so I requested a name release from the Steward and got the name. I was surprised no one wanted it in all those years. The name was, Stinky. lol.
Just to save some GP points rather than reserve it, I put it on a claimer type, so it's in use now.
have a filly by Mal out of Levitate, that I named Malodorous. (old dad joke there...with the 'levitate')
Maybe someday Malodorous will have a foal someday that I can put the name, Stinky on.
That one did turn out really nice - and accurate!

I bred and named this filly awhile ago. She is now retired.
Y54-Preseason Trainer: 'Changed for Good' had a solid gallop this morning, and may improve with age or experience. This horse looks to be a late bloomer. You should bring her along carefully.

Changed for Good - gallop changed just a little lol
Y55-W11-D4 Trainer: Oh, my! 'Changed for Good' is a freak! This horse looks to be about at their peak, but even I can’t always predict the future!
So maybe you are onto something. The conspiracy theories are now in motion.

I usually name mine after gallops which makes this one semi off topic. This filly was named before I checked her Weather Preference though.

As I bred the awesome Formosa for the last night I said in chat "Dang it she has to be good!" and then followed that up with "famous last words right?!?". lol Quickly named Famous Last Words when I saw the name was open. She didn't disappoint!

I have this one, when it comes to figuring his equipment:
Madlookinhiseyes
https://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.ph ... ID=1351860&
I paid for it this time, ended up being f8+tt, I was a few starts away at least from guessing that. Though now that I do it know it, the gap before his f8 workout does stick out...
