Barrier Trial Question

Post by Danny Derby »

If a horse is the type that will improve after a first or second start, would running in a barrier trial trigger that improvement or does it have to be in an actual race?

I was told by a prominent player, it has to be an actual race.

Very good question, and they are both correct in that it has to be an actual race, but might be worth us considering.

Could be a way to pull in GPs from people hunting for improvers...

TAKE MY MONEY!
I would be entering so many horses in barrier trials if they could trigger a jump.

I would definitely run a lot more barrier trials.

Would that be before or after barrier trials go global? Last I looked, trials were US based only. Whilst trials remain a solely US deal I have zero interest in them since my younger horses are based in Europe.

I'm actually fascinated that people would rather find, enter, and PAY for a barrier trial to trigger a jump than, you know, race. In a free race.

People don’t like taking Ls. Looks bad for your stats and for the horse’s stats

I actually never understood this, so thank you for explaining.

Same here, my improvers I just race every 3 weeks until they improve. They earn some money that way and most of them don’t improve until 3 or 4 anyway. I’ve only ever used barrier trials for confidence

If you run in trials would you take 2 week break from any other training after or is 1 week ok? I know it's probably preference but any tips is appreciated

You may end up somewhere in between. A trial is said to be more tiring than a workout but not as much as a race.
