FOALS, Foals Everywhere!!

Post by Lily Wilkins »

I'm in so much trouble. Here they're taking talent comments away, and i've bred my biggest crop of foals ever.. 167 foals as of writing this, consisting multiple breeds and divisions. Will I get through Year 62 with my sanity intact? We shall see!
I think i'm pretty much done, minus a possible auction lease or two.

What's everyone's number so far? Surely a few of you have bred waaayyyy more than me and can make me feel better about my decisions? Lol!

I accidentally also bred more than I ever had. I have currently bred 118 foals, and I'm hoping to add a few more before the year turns over. Looking forward to read Emily's new comments.

I have 75. Big for me. Too big. Definitely bred some mares that not only should be pensioned but spayed. Wouldn't have done nearly as many if we'd known earlier about the changes, just so I could figure out what that all entailed without a big commitment, but nothing I can do about it now so we'll see.

I've bred 208 foals, which is probably a record for me. And I sure didn't breed all my mares. However, I keep thinking I should round it up to a nice 210. Maybe an auction mare or two?

182 flat tb babies and 28 chasers and probably a few more to come. Ya, the numbers just sneak up on you, lol

Updated and hopefully that’s the end.

I had like 76 last year....but cut back for this year....45 foals. I do not want to go over 50.

I race every foal I breed, and in the past few years, I've started the year out with as many as 250 horses in my racing barn. I'm working my way down to a more manageable 120 to 150. I also don't retire or pension until they stop earning money on a consistent basis.

For me, since I don't sell, or give my horse to AJ, the only way to reduce my racing stable is retire/pension...and not breed so many.

Also by breeding fewer, I'm Very Much more selective on what broodmare I use. Most are stars and blue hens and a few formidable with nice foals already. But I still will breed 3 or 4 on a whimsy...like that 31 year old mare that I bred and she lived...lol.

I am hoping with quality over quantity, I'll have some really good crops in the next few years.

I will land on 150-160 this year. It's a little too much for me, lol, my barn is about to explode, but there are so many pretty things to breed.

I will start working on the cut back next year. Yes.

179. 68 of those are DR TB's. The rest is spread out among all the other divisions (except chasing).
I think this is a record for me too? It shall be interesting with the new comments coming!

245 foals. 92 unbred mares (will probably pension a few though, retired some things that I don't think will be breeding). Eyeing the many ongoing auctions.

It is a problem. 95% are probably smoking hot garbage. At least nothing will gallop claimer this year!
