Like many others, I was a little surprised at first but once I realized the thresholds seemed to have changed, things made more sense.

Numbers for my yearlings:
Allowance = 5 (38.4%)
Productive = 4 (30.8%)
Solid = 2 (15.4%)
Claimer = 2 (15.4%)
Total = 13
Obviously a disappointment that there were no stakes, but my TBs have kind of been overachieving of late so this is more in the realm of what I expect of them. Was excited that 2 of my 2yos are still stakes even after the adjustments.

Re: Obligatory Yearling "Hey! This is how many what gallops I got"
My lone freak yearling is out of a formidable mare whose BSF was 68 (in a MC 2500) and could not even win a MC 500). I gave away 25 formidable mares last year but I was too embarrassed to even try and give this mare away.
Freak Yearling
This yearling definitely supports the premise that you breed many mares and hope you get extremely lucky. In contrast, my many blue hens produced very few stakes gallopers.

I had one freak colt sired by War Like Me, 3-4 to Erin's High Dreams (dam of Lady so Divine and Through the Ghost). It was nice also because he's trailing back to my first DR broodmare in 3rd generation.
I also had a few stakes sired by different stallions:
AWS:
Illegalist - Lovely Day
DM:
Holland Road - Justify
DR:
Christopher Robin - Mr. Wonderful (3x3 Philadelphia)
Dave Matthews Band - James Dean
Mr. Wonderful - Hold Above
Owligator - Allonsy (3x3 Doctor)
The People's Horse - Dave Matthews Band (3x4 Doctor)
Unmerciful - Vector (3x4 Just One Kiss)
War Like Me - Parts Unknown (3x3 Heart of the Storm)
TS:
Dirk Provin - See You Monday (3x4 Reach for the Moon)
TM:
Fearless Spirit - Superbia

You sound like a newer player (you mentioned this is your first crop). If you are, welcome .Gregwyn Tiu wrote: ↑1 year agoIn that case, Will I make my money back at the very least?Nicole Marie wrote: ↑1 year ago I think the steward had said in the chat a couple weeks ago that most LB wind up going up a level, so you may get some stakes peak out of those which in the right spots can still make you money.
Your first few seasons aren't about making your money back in a straight exchange of spending 'x' on breeding and making at least 'x' in purses. If you made enough at Trial Park to spend 3 million on breeding, that's an investment into your future broodmare band (I hope you bred some fillies). Once you leave the newbie tracks you're going to "drop off" a cliff in race earnings because the open sim is just a lot less profitable/a lot more competitive.
Your goal when you're racing your first couple crops is more likely going to be to make enough to breed to good value stallions at around 20k each at the end of the season. Your main income will be from maiden placings and wins. As far as stakes racing, one or two of your horses may progress into a horse that can win stakes (which is different than having a 'stakes' or 'freak' gallop rating). If they do, then enjoy it. If they don't, then keep trying.
This is a game that takes real **years** to get established.

Re: Obligatory Yearling "Hey! This is how many what gallops I got"
Mah gallops:
102 foals
No stakes/freaks
11 Allowance (2 progressive, 9!!! LBs)
30 Productive (lots of improvers)
22 Solid (lots of improvers)
34 Claimers (lots of improvers)
5 DCs (3 progressive, 2 peak)
I have no idea what's going on with gallop ratings right now, so I figure I can be pretty happy. I have *two* older homebred freaks and four homebred stakes in my race string right now so I have some shiny toys to play with now that I've returned.
I had a lot of really sad broodmares in my band, but I got a donation of better mares from a friend and so I purged the bad ones. Next break the stats should be better.
My home stallion, Wizard's Council, had 5 allowance gallops from this crop and *all* are LBs. I am so excited about both his new babies and the 5 year olds that I get to race this season.
Drogon's Dream didn't do nearly as well. He had a few claimers and one DC. He's not nicking well but I'll give him at least one more season before I consider what to do. AW isn't as competitive as other surfaces so his babies may make a little money.
Full disclosure: I AJ'd the two peak DCs. I'll see if I can get the progressives to do something in claimers.

Re: Obligatory Yearling "Hey! This is how many what gallops I got"
This crop wasn't as good as my crop of two year olds, but the ones I was most excited about were pretty much all allowance LBs, so that helps.
143 total
1 stakes (progressive, by It Is Done)
29 allowance - 5 peak, 12 progressive, 12 LB
56 productive - 6 peak, 24 progressive, 26 LB
18 solid - 1 peak, 6 progressive, 11 LB
39 claimer - 7 peak, 10 progressive, 22 LB
I got heart comments on 24 of my yearlings - 8 timid, 8 interested, 8 brave.
Obviously, I would have loved to get another freak this year, or at least a couple more stakes, but in light of the gallop adjustments I'm pretty happy. In my three year old crop, I have at least two stakes winners who were stakes gallopers that are now allowances, and know of another who's put up a 90+ speed figure. That along with the former freaks I know about who are now stakes give me hope that this crop is probably closer to the quality of my crop of two year olds than I thought at first glance.

Re: Obligatory Yearling "Hey! This is how many what gallops I got"
142 flat TBs:
3 stakes (2 LB by Tithanos, 1 progressive Fearless Spirit. What happened to my routers?)
38 allowance (23 LB. Here they are, ok.)
40 productive (17 LB)
26 solid
15 claimer
11 brave comments, 11 interested, 6 timid
11 got the breeding shed comment (2 of which are claimer colts. Expectations are not too high but I'm curious to see where they end up.)
Still not the year of the first freak, but after learning about the gallop adjustments I'm ok with this (a TR stakes would have made my day, but they are saving up for next year I'm sure).

Re: Obligatory Yearling "Hey! This is how many what gallops I got"
Three stakes from 20 TB yearlings. Beats last years two from 21 (which were a Torque half-sister to this years DR Peak and a full sister to the TS) and the previous years two from 32 (which included another half-sister to this years DR Peak, this time by Ransack).
DR Peak (Napoleon x Be Prepared x Sword, 3f x 3m Rambling, 3f x 4f Corona, 4m x 4m War Daddy).
DR Late (American Icon x Heart of the Storm x James Dean, complete outcross in four generations).
TS Late (Riven Gold x See You Monday x Awtaad, 3f x 4f Reach for the Moon). The 5yo full brother is a lightly raced, late-blooming-stakes-turned-freak who hopefully can string a few stakes wins together this year.

(2.8%) 1 Freak (by Dissimulation)
(8.5%) 3 Stakes (by Improvisational, Ghaiyyath and Magnificent Jeblar)
(22.8%) 8 Allowance
(40%) 14 Productive
(14.2%) 5 Solid
(11.4%) 4 Claimer
Pretty happy with this crop overall because I didn't breed my bestest mares and didn't do too much research.

Now all of a sudden I'm being told to insure four of them. At least they're all allowance LB or allowance progressive. Not sure if my stakes hasn't gotten the insure comment since I insured her when she was born, or if I shouldn't have insured her, or if she will get that comment with further gallops.Carole Hanson wrote: ↑1 year ago This is a PSA that you can gallop them again and get a different comment, I just did!
