It wasn’t vision related but I did have the same problem when I was post concussive. Was glad I only had 40 or so yearlings to equip because it was an absolute nightmare trying to go from the horses notes to the equipment page and not forget. Fb and f8 got swapped in my stupid brain several times. Moral of the story is don’t fall off horses and then try to SIM

I'd be happy ditching equipment entirely, if it helps any.

But I like Stormy's suggestion too.

So would it be fw instead of fb? and then hw instead of hb? Are we positive we don't have a fw and a hw already? Would this be too confusing with sw?

It would be Front Wraps (fw) and Hind Wraps (hw)

On my worst days with my eyesight I don't think I've ever confused like a sw with say, sr. The w and the r are not similar in shape. And, today I am having mild sight issues and in looking at sw compared to: hw, fw -- even in capped form, SW and HW FW - I can easily tell the difference.

I've never had a problem mistaking any of the lettering with equipment...just the f8 and fb, and after looking, I know I've made that worse, when I typed a gallop hint or whatever it into my horse's notes in caps and they look even closer alike. F8, FB.

I'm open to other ways too...
Adding a "G' could help for bandages --> Front Bandages = fbg and Hind Bandages = hbg.

Maybe just changing the F8 would be easier than to change two other pieces?
Someone suggested just changing Figure 8 to F-8
or use 'G' from the word figure --> fg8

I was hoping this wouldn't be a big deal as far as a change. Thus the poll to see if it wouldn't be liked by the rest of the Sim
But too, if it's also going to be a pain to change the code in the programming, then don't worry about it.

Btw, I think I've come to realize something after reading Gigi's comment in this post.
Along with my bad days with my eyesight, I'm also dealing with post covid issues, and one of them is brain fog.

I got covid around the 1st of July last year. It's given me more pain, pain in my joints where I never had pain before, and also it's messed with my mind...it's called covid brain-fog.

Like with Gigi having a muddled brain due to a concussion....my brain-fog is causing me some muddled thinking processes.
Most of them revolve around words and letters.
For example:
I can no longer think of the word 'stuffing' and say it correctly, unless I pause and really think about the word...otherwise it comes out as 'frosting' :| My brain tells me 'stuffing' but by the time I say it, it comes out as frosting.

I've had issues like that with other words too...both in typing and saying the words 'month' and 'money'. I have said and typed things like "the first of the money"....rather than...."the first of the month".

Here in the Sim, it could be... my brain is getting f8 and fb mixed up even on days when my eye sight is good? I don't know.
It has happened in the past, before I got covid, but only on rare occasions, and I blamed it on my eye sight, or me just not paying attention.

But it's happened a lot more lately, and now that I think about it, the mix-ups have happened mostly after last July when I had covid : (

I know my eye sight has a lot to do with it too, as I really do have a problem seeing a difference when those two particular abbreviations are blurry. But my bad days of eye sight are not a daily thing, sometimes not even a weekly thing.
But, in thinking about "what if it's a brain thing" ... that worries me.

Anyway, if this turns out to be a big deal with coding or with people writing to you saying they don't want it...don't do it.
A few people here said they did the same thing in the past with those two equipment abbreviations, but it's not a problem for most here.

I guess I'm just more frustrated with the mistakes I'm seeing on my part than with any real flaw in the Sim.
If a change isn't made, I'll just try to be more aware when dealing with those two pieces of equipment.

That would be easy to read too, on days when my eyesight is blurry.

+1 for making the game more accessible.

I'm not diabetic but I do wear glasses, and I get tripped up by the fb and f8 thing myself.

For the people who are confused by having trouble with lower-case letters ... sometimes when I'm tired I don't see the "stick" of the b so it looks like fo (which is fine). But other times when I'm tired the stick of the b blurs into casting a little "shadow" that isn't there, and then it looks more like a B (which looks like 8).

Likely something similar is happening to Stormy.

The only difficulty that I have in the Sim is with l (Lasix) which I momentarily confuse with the number one. In my notes, I always use L for Lasix which is what the DRF uses.

DRF abbreviations: https://www1.drf.com/help/help_symbols.html

The DRF uses f for Horse wore front bandages.
I think that hind bandages are not noted because most horses seem to wear them.
But one could h for hind bandages.

So I vote to change:
l to L for Lasix
fb to f for front bandages
hb to h for hind bandages

Aside: My vision is pretty bad -- cataracts, astigmatism, very near sighted (particularly, in my right eye), and need +2.5 magnification for reading. So I have been using a Chromebook (with touch screen) and iPad to play the Sim -- with just a pinch, I can magnify things.
