Farms
Heads up,
A few players have asked me to "warn" everyone that new farms are being built that are the closest to tracks and are very expensive. This isn't cheating or anything, players can do what they want with their money, but it does mean to keep an eye on your boarding fees if you are wary.
Thank you for the PSA, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Re: Farms
Relatedly under My Office > My Info there is a location option which will tell you where you have horses. It is sortable by board. So that is a great quick way to find out if you have a horse somewhere pricey.

Re: Farms
Yes, I now only ship from my laptop (it will show the board fee of the farm before I ship- thanks for that addition, BTW. I don't get that when I am using my phone).

Re: Farms
Respectfully, that comparison is apples to oranges. Only a handful of stallions stand for more than $100k, and they are generally considered the best in their division (and usually dirt route or turf route thoroughbreds). Here, you get no better rest at the $200 farm than the $20 farm, and in most cases, while the $200 farm might be closer mileage wise, it usually isn't any shorter of a ship time-wise. Finally, I'm going to pay $200k to send my best mare to that stallion. I'm not going to pay for a farm that costs 10x as much to send my allowance/maiden/claiming horse there to ship - that $200 per week, plus the shipping fee, can quickly overwhelm the $1,400 a horse earned for finishing 4th. I haven't been using the closest farm feature for precisely this reason - I'd rather ship to one of my farms, or a farm that's comparable, but costs $20 instead of $50/$100/$200.

What’s the point of having different prices to stay at farm to begin with when there’s no additional benefit?

Re: Farms
None. The owner of the farm decides what amenities the farm will have (most pay for all amenities), and sets the boarding fee. Most, but not all, owners choose to set the minimum $20, others set the price higher. (You can pay $85 for a t-shirt at a designer store, or $20 for the exact same t-shirt at another store - same manufacturer, same materials - but you chose to pay $65 for a fancy bag from the purchase at the designer store).Gavin Guile wrote: ↑11 months ago What’s the point of having different prices to stay at farm to begin with when there’s no additional benefit?

Re: Farms
I try to look for the good side of things... so I always kind of wondered, hoped....that those with $200 farms, priced them like that because they are rich enough to not worry about collecting farm fees, and know that most people will put their horses on the next closest farm that is at $20, and that farm, perhaps is owned by someone without a huge amount of funds.
But, I'm not naive, and think a few do it, just to make some money off of those not paying attention.
Either way, I don't have a problem with people pricing out their farms for what they want. The game over the decade and a half since I've been here, has become so much more easier to play, that paying attention to a simple detail as to the price of the barns I'm shipping my horses too, isn't a big deal.

Re: Farms
What's the point/purpose of having different boarding fee options? Seems like having a floor of $20 and a ceiling of $200 is fairly arbitrary?
Why not just change it so every farm can only charge a $20 board fee? A $20 standard boarding fee seems to be a logical and simple solution here? I'm not sure if people bought or built farms with the intent to charge $200, or inflated boarding fees, but it appears most, if not all, people actively avoid those farms anyway. Probably a more strategic option would be to just charge $20 and let people auto-ship their horses to your farm than try to catch the unsuspected players, but I am no economist.
Sounds like just putting a standard $20 fee on it would solve all these unintended and unnecessary issues/problems.

What’s the point of having different prices..I don’t care about it being fair..I just don’t get the point of different prices if there’s no difference in what the farm offers

Re: Farms
The point is... People paid $2 million for their farms. Plus they spent their own funds to add the extras. So if they want to tag the price of that farm even $10 more than the base price that is their business. Most farms are not going to make anyone money, so I think a lot of the farms are/were built for the convenience of the owner.
People like to play this game their own way, and if some owner happens to be ... for a lack of a better description...'anti social' and wants to limit others from using his farm...one way to do that it put a $200 price on it. Another owner, might have built a farm in some very much out of the way place, but still near a track, and figures they have a monopoly so maybe to help pay for things they price their farm at $35 dollars, because they can....as they might be the only farm for miles.
I do not want to see this game getting more and more micro managed because some just think that a socialist take-over of farm prices is 'fair'. Let people play this game, as much as they can, as they see fit...especially when it comes to farm prices, since, as I've pointed out....in most cases there are enough farms at $20 to chose from...and it only requires the person shipping their horses to pay a little attention to that before shipping.

Re: Farms
Following this logic, why do we have a $20 floor and $200 ceiling? Why shouldn't someone be allowed to charge $10 or $300?Stormy Peak wrote: ↑11 months ago The point is... My point was there is already an arbitrary ceiling and floor, why not narrow that or simply eliminate it?
