Shipping question

Post by Ma Springs »

Which attribute causes tiredness when shipping, the distance or the time traveled?

(The few times) when I ship manually I sort by time, since that instinctively seems to be the right answer.

The auto ship to nearest farm, however, ships to the closest farm by miles, which often is not the same.

Have I been wrong the whole time or should I post in the Two small things? ๐Ÿค”

This may help, or further perplex:
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=11276
"Horses get tired from shipping depending on how far they go. Shipping an hour doesn't take too long to recover from, but shipping, say, 10 hours or more takes several days to recover from. The best way to figure out how long it takes to recover from shipping is to check with the vet after the horse is shipped and wait until the "all clear" is given to run again."

I've personally always gone by shipping time - How long is that horse having to stand on a trailer or plane, and how long will they need to recover from that draining activity once they arrive at their destination.
Do you have specific examples where the auto-ship closest farm isn't the shortest ship time-wise? I'm very curious about that, because it seems like shorter mileage should equal shorter trip in most cases. It might be something that needs looking into by The Admin.

It's distance, not time. Pretty sure there are older posts that say that, and the "how far" in the Steward's post is consistent with that. There's more steps with flying - van to the airport, get on the plane, van from the airport.

That said, if you are using first-class shipping, then it really doesn't matter, since the horse isn't accumulating fatigue from the shipping itself.

I suspect that an example of the auto-ship farm isn't the closest time-wise, is when there is technically a shorter plane ride than van ride. The farm with the van ride is closer to the track than the one you have to fly to.

Learn new things every day. ๐Ÿ™ Thanks!
Ok, if it is distance, then it is distance.

Example:
This one I changed because I didnโ€™t want that boarding fee ๐Ÿ˜Š, closest/van vs fastest/airplane:

The Steward said that shipping by van was better than shipping via plane as far as tiredness. So that would be distances is better than time involved.

Once it get's past a certain distance you have to put your horse on a plane.
So, for regular shipping, the longest distance via van is better than a shorter time on an airplane flight.
