Leasing a Horse

Post by The Steward »

Horses of racing age (2 year olds and older for most breeds, or 3 year olds and older Arabians), as well as broodmares and stallions, are able to be leased out to other players. If the temporary owner races or works the horse too much, it can still get injured. If the horse is not insured, it can still get hit by a random injury. All pensioned horses and barren mares can not be leased.

Racehorses
When a racehorse is leased out, the temporary owner can train and race the horse, and retains all purse earnings. They are unable to sell the horse or enter it in a claiming race.

Broodmares
Broodmares can be leased to players for the season. Temporary owners are unable to sell the horse.

Stallions
Stallions are able to be leased for a season. The new owner can adjust the stud fee or take the horse off the market, but cannot sell or transfer the horse unless back to the original owner.

Can a person who leases a racehorse retire that horse, or not?
