All About All Weather

Post by Talia Ichinari »

So Ara and I were talking and thought it'd be a good idea to keep tabs on the AW circuit to keep track of the big horses and to also learn more on what bloodlines seem to produce AW since it's still a bit confusing for most of us. So if you guys could help the rest of us simsters out post here about your AW horses whether they be maidens winners with a lot of potential or stakes horses duking it out. And if you have any information of lines to look for whether it be in those hidden AW sires or horses that have AW potential on the track.

All Weather owns

I had this 2yo filly win last night: http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=144389

Her name is Sun Flare and she's by Magician out of Onceuponasummer, who's by Midnightconfession (another good retired AW sire).

Although Onceuponasummer never herself ran on AW, she is also the dam of Brianna's Comestoanend, an earner of nearly $2 million who was undefeated on turf and AW (and was a stakes winner on both those surfaces AND on dirt). Her 2yo is also by Magician and I want to take this chance to encourage Bri to run her on AW.

Here's Sun Flare's and Comestoanend's yearling sister, by Astonishing, thus a future AW star IMO: http://www.simhorseracing.com/horse.php?HorseID=187317

So yeah this family owns

Seraph appears to be the clear heir apparent to Adjust the Lens as premier sprint sire from what I've seen thus far. His fast ones are blazing fast.

Rocky Mountain's looking interesting, I have one winner by him so far at a route. He's got two winners in his first crop at the races and this is week 11 when routes for AW started.

CAH's Even in the Snow (particularly at miling and sprinting) and still Brave the Weather (whose deceased) at miling and routing. It's interesting watching the BTW broodmares which are starting to emerge and how fast some of their offspring look right now. So it'll be interesting to see how the grandchildren of BTW through his mares and his son(Ominous Rumblings) do on the track. The BTW mares for the most part are purse AW horses, not descendants of dual or multi-surface horses. Including crossing them with Astonishing and Battlenote (by Rainshine) in particular.

San Joaquin for sprinting and miling. Not outstanding imo but useful.

For longer routing, I like Eastern Dynasty. Not quite sold yet on Always With Me though I have one of his daughters who's a half to ED.

I'll also mention Deserves A Shot for a couple of reasons: 1) He has only about a dozen yearlings in his first crop and about half of those have better than average works and I really only saw maybe two that had works that could be considered "poor". He even has one with only works on dirt and both are quite nice. 2) He's got a fairly offbeat pedigree for All-Weather so its hard to find a mare that he you can't justify using and at $7,500 - he's probably one of the best bargains around once you get outside of some of the big guns in the division.

Is no one going to mention West who blazed in his last race on AW? He's worth a shot except for the fact of his fee.

Even in the Snow's made his mark. Looks at the sprint and miling stakes results for AW the last two seasons. Dominated by him.

Also to lesser degree Six Eighths who can sire in dirt or AW to a degree. I've bred his dirt sprinters and just did my first pure AW mare by him to Seraph who's got Six Eighths mares producing some pretty quick offspring. :)

Rainshine too. I have two mares and tried them with BTW's son Ominous Rumblings to see what happens. Battlenote too to BTW mares.

My small addition would be that Earth Shattering might be considered a valid sprint sire as well as a miler, I've one of his yearlings with decent works:
