AW Pegasus Races

Post by Danny Derby »

These are the biggest purses AW horses will be running for all year, and the fields look like this:

$1.5M Pegasus Summit: 3 horses
$1.5M Pegasus Synthetic Route: 2 horses
$2M Pegasus Route: 3 horses

What's even the point of these races if owners aren't willing to support them? Do better people.

I opted out this year for both my boys. Neither did well last year. The distance is either too long or too short, and since they ran their eyeballs out W16 I figured they'd bounce horribly (the one who ran W2 did). Not sure the entry fees would be worth it.

The one I have nominated and would be competitive is entered. :)

I had a filly I would have entered if the distance was longer.

I have to say that I appreciate the lack of entries in the mile. Top 2 baby!!!

If I knew the fields were going to be this small, I would have thrown a horse in there, I just don't have any top level AW horses at the moment.

I would have loved to run something, but I have nothing worthy at this time.

Aw racing is differnt to the big dirt and turf races guy's. we don't have a big pool of quality horses that can win stakes. it tends to be the same horses that win stakes over and over so if your getting beat by that horse every 2 weeks why enter when you would have no chance.

Agreed. And why pay the $100k entry fee for a subpar stakes horse when you probably aren't going to get higher than 3rd or 4th? Nominations are due the previous year, meaning you won't know who'll show up until entries open the following year. That's a bit risky.

With the entry fee of $100k, you really need to run third (or fourth in the $2M race) to justify it. If you don't think you're going to hit that, why nominate? Even that, third in the $1.5 million race is $150k, after paying the $100k entry fee.

So then why have a Pegasus race for 2 or 3 horses.
There are other breeds that can make more use of those races.
